JD said at the Miami baseball forum that the decision is going to come at SS between starting a true freshman in Brandon De Goti or putting Ogden at SS.
Ogden will be in the lineup 100% whether its DH, 1B or SS

What do we think of the pitching lineup? Better or worse than last year? Looks like we will be deeper. Bats deeper too?

D1 had their report today , Seemed to have Giroux as mid week guy with Robert , Hugus and Walters on weekend …. Does anyone know if Stanyek is on the team ? No mentions of him …. Thanks.

that batting lineup has me excited. Should put up way more hits and steals than last year.

Stanyek is on the team, JD mentioned him as one of the 6 returning players from last year.

Ideal to me is Ogden working out at SS, allowing Hudson to 1B.

C- Tanner
1B- Hudson
2B- Dorian
SS- Ogden
3B- Cuvet
LF - Galvin
CF - Torres
RF- Williams
DH - Marsh

Wish we had a CF'er who could hit, but Torres is supposed to be great defensively.

There is a lot of depth with Gaby Gutierrez, Fabio Peralta, Kulikowski, Renzo Gonzalez all being bench options. Plus the two freshmen SS's can find their way into roles.

I see Walters as your Friday guy, but it sounds like they like Robert there to start.

Walters/Hugus are just about locks for the other two spots on the weekend.

Surely they'll use an experienced arm in mid-week this year after the struggles there last year. Competent pitching mid-week would turn the fortunes of last year immediately.

Rob Evans is a reliever-only in my mind, but I'm not one of the coaches obviously.

Agree that Cleveland will close, and I think Collera will get used like Ziehl as a freshman, where he is that setup guy who can use his stuff to bridge games.

I'm always a big proponent of breaking ball specialists in the bullpen and think they are effective in that role, so Will Smith will probably be your middle-inning type who steals innings.

Feels like we are one arm short at this time. Hopefully one of Lumpkin, Michael Fernandez, or Carson Fischer develops into that spot. Fischer could easily take the mid-week spot and move Giroux to the bullpen. That swing role is becoming huge in college baseball. A guy who gives you three innings after your start gives you four etc.

Reaching out to people who are there and see the data, it seems like a tournament squad. How much better overall we are than last year, I'm not really sure. Pretty confident we can return to the tournament because we don't have to rely on Chestnutt types in the mid-week, which simply wasn't good enough to compete.

I think the bats are better and the physicality is improved, but the weekend rotation is undoubtedly less talented and the bullpen is relying on guys moving up levels to hold huge spots. Maybe even a true freshman as your setup guy.

We will see, but I'm hopeful at the things I'm hearing.

Will be interesting to see what we do with our Lineup. Im hoping the freshman can get AB's and opportunities

Start him in CF hitting in the 9 hole, thereby allowing him to get used to D1 pitching and use his wheels to be disruptive. It's not like we're making a run in 2025 w this rotation.

Freshman are so rare to have the talent to impact right away. Generally, those guys have either incredible polish and baseball IQ or overwhelming physical tools.

You see it happen more often with the latter than the former. Guys with elite physical tools who make it to campus for one reason or another. When I say physical tools I general mean power and strength. Elite physical tools in run and arm aren't the types of guys who generally hit as freshmen. Our SS's are the run/arm types more than immediate impacts in my evaluation, but that's simply off high school film. I haven't seen their physical development since on campus and you have.

No matter the direction they go, I think we all just want to win.

Well you don't have a choice. There isn't a CF who can hit at this point.

In my experience, the board tends to get excited for run/glove types more than I do, but that's personal preference.

Pitching and defense still wins in baseball - closest thing to death and taxes IMO.

I will state this a hundred times this year, but a run saved = run scored.

Doesn't matter how you do it, score one or prevent one.
Agree. I think with how much Torres exceeds the other outfielders defensively, it wipes out the hitting argument. He will find a way to impact the game at least defensively, and let the other bats in the lineup do the work.
