Maybe he's a fantastic dad that just wanted his kid to be toughened up by living in Detroit? I live in South Florida but I have 2 of my kids living in Flint, Michigan and another 2 living in Gary, Indiana. I've personally never been to either place but I think it'll build character.

They can't get that character-building upbringing in Liberty City? How about some of the Haitian neighborhoods In Miami? I hear they're tough.

Why not Chicago? They have the best of all possible worlds...culture (e.g., Art Institute) and shootings.

Taliban-held areas of Afghanistan are pretty tough...they will teach strict discipline....especially if you send your girls for junior year abroad.
