2021 4-star defensive end Kechaun Bennett from Suffield Academy in Connecticut received an offer from Miami yesterday after a phone conversation with outside linebackers coach Jonathan Patke.
“When they offered me I was super excited and grateful because I visited Florida a couple of times and I love the atmosphere and the weather.” Bennett continued, “I always wanted an offer because I want to move to Florida in the future. When they came to my school, I thought they weren’t interested because they visited multiple times and didn’t talk to me.”
This was the first real communication Bennett has had with the staff at Miami so no visit is set yet, but one will likely happen.
“I want to visit in the summer.”
What is Bennett looking for from Miami during his recruitment?
“The relationship I’ll build with the coaches and the competitive nature Miami has because I love to compete. They didn’t say much about the defense, only that I’ll be a good addition.”
Bennett only has two visits set up right now and those are to Michigan and Notre Dame, both scheduled for next month. Miami does have time to make a move in the recruitment since Bennett will not be making a decision until after his senior season. One of the factors Miami has working for them is Bennett’s former teammate, current Canes freshman QB Tyler Van Dyke.
“He was the person to tell me to call the coaches. I talked to him after about Miami and he loves it so far.”
Bennett thinks very highly of Van Dyke as both a player and a person.
“I think he's a great player. He's actually the best quarterback I’ve seen and he’s a hardworking person who has a goofy side.”
While having Van Dyke is an advantage for Miami, other factors will play a role in the final decision.
“Weight room, academics, and I just have to like the atmosphere.”
