2021 Pleasant Grove (TX) 4-star DE Marcus Burris has had a busy spring of recruiting, landing offers from Alabama, LSU, Washington, and Oklahoma among others, while making multiple trips to see Texas A&M and also showing up at schools like Texas and Arkansas.
Another program that has hopped in the mix? The Miami Hurricanes, who offered last month; Burris says he is currently in the process of trying to set a visit to Coral Gables.
“My interest is high knowing that they are such a good defensive team and I am hoping to come down and visit soon,” Burris said of Miami. “The next event I will attend will most likely be an A&M camp.”
What has the 6-4, 260 pound prospect interested in Miami?
“I’ve heard that it’s an amazing environment down there, can’t wait to see it for myself” Burris said.
The Canes offered both Burris and his defensive line teammate Landon Jackson at the same time. The lethal pair of defensive ends are both ranked inside the top 100 overall in 247Sports’ latest 2021 rankings and are being heavily-pursued by most top programs in the country.
“It was crazy,” Burris said. “I didn’t get a chance to talk to the coaches, but the day they offered, my coach called me and Landon down and told us.”
As sophomores, Burris and Jackson were both instrumental in leading the Hawks to a 13-3 record and a state title game appearance. For his efforts, Burris was named a unanimous first-team all-district selection. Although Pleasant Grove wasn’t able to go all the way in 2018 and fell to Cuero High in the finals, Burris is spending his off-season making sure his team doesn’t fall short again.
“I mean we didn’t finish the job last season, but every day we are working harder and harder and getting better,” Burris said.
In the end, Burris is simply looking for the school that has the coaching to get him to the next level; he has no current timeline for a decision.
“I’m really just looking for good coaches because that’s what I have here at the Grove.”
