Gregory Spann, Lakewood, Pro-Style Quarterback

6'4 180lbs 3-star QB from out of Saint Petersburg, goes to 5A school Lakewood.

Started as a Sophomore had 974yds & 8TD's passing along with 435yds & 1TD rushing.
Has a really nice arm, but plays in an offense that is primarily run first & doesn't really allow him to make a lot of throws.

Comes from NFL stock as the son of former Jacksonville Jaguar Gregory Spann

Holds offers from USF & Duke thus far.

That boy can ball.. love the offer. I hope they let him throw more cause he has talent to throw all over the field.

Agreed. If we're offering him as a QB, I like that we getting in early.

I wanna see him develop, he said in JV ball he was a WR but got moved to QB because of his arm strength, so he's pretty new to the position.

He has a quick delivery & throws a nice tight spiral, is a classic dual-threat QB that can throw & run.

He's still young so I hope he hits the camp circuit & continues to improve.

Agreed, for being so new to the position the delivery is really impressive. Will be interesting to follow to see how he improves in the overall QB skill set, but having a good release is a great place to start.

Me too. Lakewood is a pretty good program too. Hopefully his QB coach actually has him reading coverages and learning to go through progressions.

A few balls he threw were right on the money but a few if the DB's paid attention it would've been a pick.

I like the qb's richt are going after. I like the kid from Jacksonville too and Harrison Bailey.

I love stats and all, but I want to know how many INT's there are along with the TD's. Completion percentage is just as important as well IMHO.

Want want want

Give me Spann over Max Johnson

Miami passed on Lamar Jackson, don’t f around and miss out on the next Lamar

Love the offer. Spann's arm and throwing mechanics remind me of James Blackman. This kid looks faster and much more athletic though

This kid looks 5*. Excellent form on his throws, accurate and knows when to put touch on the ball. Not to mention he is fast and athletic. This is a modern day college QB.

He is local kid here and lots of local buzz about him. I plan to see him play a couple of times in the next season.

Curious case because he looks awesome on tape, but then you check out his maxpreps stats posted and they're rather putrid:

Greg Spann Stats

I'd love to get some confirmation as to if those are accurate/complete stats or not. Regardless, presumably it was his first year playing QB and he obviously has amazing tools to work with so I'm definitely very interested in this prospect.

Yikes those are rough stats. 44.4% completions and I saw dozens of screens in those highlights for easy completions to boot.

I like the traits though. Tall, long and very fast. Throws a nice touch ball and showed glimpses of stepping into throws and driving the ball although he throws off his back foot far too much. He will need to speed up his dropback process but I saw plays where he reset his feet effectively mirroring his eyes and feet. Hard to gauge his mental traits when most of the throws were 1-read pass concepts but there were a few plays where he quickly eliminated reads looking frontside and backside before scrambling.

Looks like a good developmental prospect and eventual 4* ranking but I hope there's a good explanation for the poor stats.
