Close guys like Rivers, Denis, and Walker, with guys like Scaife, Hillery, Herbert, etc. and a solid OL coach, and there is no reason why we shouldn’t be able to push DLs in the coastal around over the next couple of years.

I understand hopeful enthusiasm with re recruits, but for guys who have been on campus a while, you have to look at what they have done. What have Hillery and Herbert shown to merit inclusion in that statement?

I’m assuming these guys will finally be healthy and have a OL coach that can develop them properly and coach them up the potential they showed in HS. Again, it is a assumption.

As bad as Searels was, the whole group had the same coach, and Hillery and Herbert did not excel relative to the other, often lower rated kids who they competed with for playing time.

We should stop fantasizing that these guys will magically be what some had hoped when a new coach comes in. Herbert had injuries so maybe he’s over them. Hillery was a 3* project when we took him, and has played the role so far. I have no idea why people think he was supposed to be more than that. Maybe he’ll turn the corner, but I see no reason to think he will surpass other guys on our line.

Hillery had offers from Alabama & Clemson coming out. Not a bad "project" to take a flyer on..

Don’t believe everything you read. He was a mid to low 3* on Rivals, and while he looked like he could grow into a good player, he did not stand out particularly in camps. I recall some of the feedback from Richt’s camp and Hillary was not described as dominating. I realize Rivals claims he had an Alabama offer but he never even visited those schools he claimed offers from. Those were not ‘commitable’ offers. He was not the type of prospect you seem to imagine him to have been.

Moreover, Alabama in ‘17 signed 5 OL. 3 were 5* kids, one was a 4* and one 3* from Alabama. Miami’s OL class was nowhere near as good as Alabama’s, and in its write up on Miami’s class, Rivals didn’t even mention Hillary. He was an okay take as a developmental project, but not some top recruit.

All 3 of the recruiting services claimed he had offers from Clemson & Alabama-not just Rivals. Whether he was a priority for those programs is besides the pt. The pt is..offering/recruiting Hillery wasn't just a random shot in the dark, like it was in the case of Dykstra for example

i disagree. He didnt visit those schools. They claim way more offers from Alabama than the number of kids Alabama can take, which alone tells you the claim is bogus.

Hillery was a mid level 3* kid who had height and length but not strength nor technique. He was a project. Nfw he could have gone to Alabama. No one should believe that.

If anything, what this exchange highlights is the services are highly inaccurate in their reported offers. Alabama probably sends out >150 ‘offer letters’ to kids early in the process. That’s probably the basis for the claim. It’s a meaningless basis. Alabama was not taking him in that class.

We shall see. I'm hopeful he can at least be a rotational guard this yr. His strength issues seem to be addressed as he now has a 400+ lb bench
