These two classes seem very familiar with one another, both occurred during a coaching change, both saw a top five quarterback choose penn state over Miami, both had a top wide receiver come down between us and another tradional power school with Vidal Hazelton and Jaden Haselwood, both had a premiere left tackle choose to leave the state for college with Sam Young and Evan Neal, and then then there is the overall mediocrity of the class, top players were Sam Shields in 06 and possibly Jeremiah Payton in ‘19. Sorry for the run on sentence, but as far as swinging and missing on in state and top prospects and underperforming on and off the field, these two seasons are eerily identical. I do hope we land a better class than we did in 06 and I don’t think missing a quarterback in this specific class is not that bad, being that this may be the worst quarterback class in 25 years. I am not not worried about the lineman that we do or don’t bring in, because while I do strongly believe games are won in the trenches, I also think great offensive lines are coached up, not recruited. The only positions I am worried about are defensive tackles, linebackers and safeties because those are quick twitch positions that can make or break a defense.
