The Miami Central (Fla.) Rockets are coming off their second state championship and as always are looking to reload for next year already. 2015 defensive end Fermin Silva is one of the many senior leaders who is looking to contribute the same amount or even more effort to get back there again.

“It feels really good knowing that I’ve been to states all of my football years. It feels very great because all the hard work paid off. I’m working hard everyday and keeping the kids focused. This is going to be a big year because not only is it my last year, but people think that just because Joe (Yearby) and Dalvin (Cook) are gone that we aren’t gonna go back, but we have a lot to prove as a team.”

Silva played a very prominent role in the Rockets defense this past season as he contributed to their ferocious pass rush and he thanks the coaches for calling on him early.

“It meant to me that the coaches believed in me and they trusted me to do it and they needed me to help my team and put my team on my back. We needed it when Joe (Yearby) went down and I put it on my back to help my team.”

Recruiting wise, Silva is still getting exposure and looking to hear from more schools.

“Schools that are in contact with me are UM,USF and Appalachian State offered me. I talk to UM, FSU, Alabama, Louisville, Michigan and Purdue. Those are all the schools are interested.”

The South Florida Bulls are an intriguing school for Silva because of the familiarity with his former head coach Telly Lockette who is the running backs coach there.

“With USF, there’s a lot of players there that I played with so it would feel like home and I have coach (Telly) Lockette there and he was like a dad to me so that wouldn’t be a problem at all since I know he would be there for me.”

The hometown Miami Hurricanes are in contact with the 6’1 215 pound rush end prospect and he made it clear where he stands with them.

“I’m just waiting for the offer and all the coaches know me and they talk about me in the meetings. I’m just waiting for the offer right now.”

The Miami Central product does admit the ‘Canes would sit in a good position if they were to offer.

“They would be tied for first. It’s home it feels like home, the chance to play with Joe (Yearby) and Trevor (Darling) it would be amazing. The coaches love me a lot and I like them too and they push you with school work which I like a lot. The history also, I looked up to a lot of players that came from there.”

While Silva is still waiting for an offer from Miami, he does admit they are recruiting him aggressively.

“They send me mail every day and I talk to coach Hurlie (Brown) about every 2 weeks or I’ll go to a basketball game and talk to them. It’s probably a 9 of how hard they’re recruiting me.”

6'1, 215...not a whole lot of room to work with. Would probably have to be a linebacker. Can't play DL in this scheme with those measurables. He would have to be a Mike Smith type.

Good call, based on his tape this kid is a LB in college. He plays the run extremely well, but he isn't fast enough off the edge like smith.

No place in the world produces 6'1 215 rush end/LBs like South Florida and they just don't naturally fit anywhere into what we try to do unless they're the rare breed that steps back to LB and have natural instincts.

Al just needs to allow the coaches of STA, MC and BTW to give there kids scholarship offers from Miami. Just give them a coupon book and say just let me know who is D1 material and hook them up. Also give them coupons for free bowling shoes as well.

Lol. Well I dont know about all that. Thats how you look up and you got Jermaine Bartons in your OL depth. BUT i get your point. I think this will be the first year though that Al has truly "learned his lesson". I think he came out of the "Alex Collins/MT6" saga with a little arrogance. Like "who are these kids to play me like a fool. I will show these SoFla divas whos boss!" I also think Al thought that we would have a better year this year and that kids would be begging to jump onboard.

The year didnt end quite how he expected. Hence, our recruiting class goin' bottom out.

But I think this year he will play the game. The Cronkite situation could have really been an example of another SoFla recruit blowing up in his face. We offered that guy just in time. This year is a pivotal year from the standpoint of if we miss on 1 or 2 key guys (JJohnson/Irvin)...The whole class goes to **** VERY fast.

One thing is for sure the second Al think he is gong to show these prima donnas whats up we lose. Recruiting in South Florida is about licking balls. No matter what it takes you just need to make it happen.

Look! You have to get your hooks into as many of the top players as possible, if for only one simple reason, ain't no guarantee the top player you recruit is gonna sign with you. If I were Al Golden I would hire a DL consultant to evaluate as many DL as possible that are not being highly recruited, but can be monsters and recruit at least 2 per year. Even if it means being a little thin elsewhere. Games and wars are won on the front. Skill guys are nice but there is only one ball, while all the DL can do their thing on every defensive snap.

Not a bad idea actually. Some other programs have huge staffs (no homo), the focus solely for zeroing in on recruits, and filtering through to get the talent they are looking for to fit their scheme.

Though he committed to #Marshall 24 hours ago, Miami (Fla.) Central defensive end, Fermin Silva, tells me he's now de-committed.
