I truly believe that we'll be light-years ahead of 2012 on defense. [Yeah, I know, we gotta be.] But ignoring all the reasons why [infusion of new blood; year of experience; off-season of UTough], let's just assume my premise is accurate.

Also, we all assume that we'll have a **** good offense!

My question then is, if you're Al G. or Fisch, do you continue to employ a 'hurry up' offense? Seems to me we're gonna score by the bushelful, so why not give our defense all the help [rest] we can by keeping them off the field as long as possible. I'd like to see our time of possession improve,

Your thoughts.

the hurry up worked last year. the coaching staff was smart in recognizing that when you have an explosive offense and a terrible defense, you need to maximize the number of possessions. the reason we beat NC st & GT (and maybe even Duke) is because we squeezed as many possessions as possible from those games. i don't see why anything should change next year unless the defense is markedly better -- personally i don't think they're gonna make a huge jump, but we'll see.

one thing the team can definitely get better at, though, is sitting on the ball when the time calls for it. i'm thinking most notably of the UVA game, where we had 2 drives to kill the clock and win the game but couldn't do it, thus blowing a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter. but, yeah, i don't see why we would change anything up from last year.

Did anybody watch Oregon or Texas A&M in their BCS bowls? They knocked the snot out of those teams because of their hurry up offenses. Both teams had good defenses. Get your personnel on the field and don't allow the defense to adjust and score at will. As long as our defense is in good shape I don't care how good or bad they are. Put points on the board and break the other teams spirit. That should be our philosophy next year.

Bush and Jenkins will be the best safety tandem we've had in a long time. Can't wait to see them after on off-season of U Tough.

BINGO! People make it seem like the offense is the cause of the D struggles. Defense struggles on first drive when completely healthy and energized, they struggle late. They will get better but they sucked last year. Its not like our defense was a monster on third down and we put them right back on the field. They could never get off the field on 3rd down. Its Dono and the D job to get off the field. Make a play, hopefully we start next year.

With all that said, I think we evolve alittle from last year offense and only pace/tempo in certain spots. Next year is gonna be exciting

People who complain about the offense scoring too quickly remind me of baseball fans who lament players who "only hit home runs."

Agree and if Porter can finally avoid freak health issues and we can bring a decent JC DT to go through Utough and spring practices and be a starter or 3rd DT to Porter and Pierre, next years' defense could be much, much improved.

People keep saying this but are there actually and JC DTs left we have a decent chance with? Haven't heard anything recently and classes start really soon..
