2013 Miami OL ranked Top 10 in NCAAF

We are a top ten OL on paper. Haven't read the article yet but that website is usually on point

we can't block in short yardage situations and McDermott is a liability against elite defensive tackles

better QB decisions, better playcalling, and a better running back will go a long way to fixing things sure, but the oline wasn't anything special last year

Makes sense. Top 10 Oline + horrid defense divided by (overrated QB + job hunting coach) = bowl game slaughter.

We're ranked 10th overall, with some peaks and valleys.

Our OL was very good at pass blocking (sack rate), and Morris could've made them look even better.

Duke's injury also hurt the OL stats I am sure (Dallas just isn't explosive).

Thanks for the linkage.

Didn't read the article yet but the eyeball test alone tells me that despite what the article says, our run-blocking was an abortion all of last year.

Definitely would not think that. Nonetheless, this should mean a certain dopey eyed QB either goes undrafted or goes undrafted.

Yep.

From an individual standpoint, the talent is there. As a unit, we were underwhelming.

If I am reading the article and the table correctly, we were only ranked in the top 10 in the "Adj. Line Yards" category. We ranked poorly in most of the other categories shown. In fact we were ranked 75th in the "stuff rate" category and 102 in Power Success rate. If anything this article validates what most of us have been saying all along -- this OL struggled in short yardage situations.

well I dont think you can say that the run blocking in general was bad. we were very effective running the ball in most situations and had very good ypc. the problem was/is short yardage mainly. we kinda sucked at that. we also dont really have a short yardage back

If we had a field general that could audible at the LOS and take advantage of a defense instead of this "look at the sideline" crap, which does nothing but let the defense catch their breathe and regroup for an extra 5-7 seconds, maybe we could take advantage and get some leverage. Coley needs to let that **** go ASAP. I know he's excited to call plays for the first time, but let the players play. Take the reigns off.

I am glad to see some new faces on the line also.

I've heard for years how we have a top 10 OL, but it never seems to translate into first down or TDs in short yardage situations. Whether it's scheme, talent, or coaching, we have not lived up to expectations, so mine remain very tempered.

Again, the article is not stating that we had a top 10 OL. We ranked #10 in the Adjusted Line Yards category, which just so happens to be the first stat shown in the sortable table. If you scroll to the right, you will see that we ranked 102 in Power Success rate and 75 in Stuff Rate. This is hardly an endorsement of our OL.

Our OL was super inconsistent.

The first quarter of the UF game Duke was getting yards in chunks then for whatever reason he got shutdown the last 3 quarters.

In the FSU game in the first half Duke had plenty of creases to run through. I really haven't had the stomach to re-watch the second half of that game yet, but I imagine he's injury deflated the whole team.

teams always made adjustments we ran the same thing...I am betting it was a QB issue

we have a great big offensive line...

yet we choose to play against that strength at times with zone blocking

New year, same old story.

I do love our OL potential though and some of our young guys like Isadora and Gall are poised to make moves this year, but I will wait and see.

Never thought I would say it but I really wish we had one more year of Jared Wheeler.
