So far the Canes have 1 quality win and 2 wins against sub-par teams and another game coming up against a really bad opponent in USF.

If we trash USF like we should that only proves that this team stays motivated. If we sleep walk to victory we'll know that the team may be lacking in motivation and if we loose then we know that this team isn't ready for the long term success.

Every year there are a few teams that rise the ranks early, only to fall once they begin to face quality opponents every week. I'm still not sure how good the Canes are because we have been relatively untested. After this first quarter of the season how good do you think the team is this year?

If we sleep walk through the USF game, I'm gonna shoot myself.

We played and beat a rival that is a top 25 team. This early in the season we are one of the few teams that has actually been tested and proven something. We'll know more about the team after our games against GT and UNC tho.

So UF is relatively not a test?
I'm messing with you some.
USF will only tell us if we stay motivated.
GT and UNC will be more telling

We will know much more at the end of October. GT, UNC, etc.

Defense looks much improved while I suspect the offense may not be as good as advertised.

Maybe the best way to quantify at this point is "much improved over last year." Several improvements seem pretty much independent of the opponents:

The offense may be similar to last year's, but the defense seems (as a group) bigger, stronger and quicker. Their conditioning, which was actually pretty good last year, seems even better this year. The biggest weaknesses last year were the defensive line and the pass rush. Both of these aspects seem greatly improved, in terms of both starters and depth. Last year, the freshmen seemed confused and often out of position. Those same kids now understand their assignments and execute pretty well.

As far as the level of competition goes, I saw enough against UF to convince me that we will be pretty stout against the run. Florida's receivers seemed to be open quite a bit, even when we got good pressure, so we need to cover better.

I don't think I've got an accurate feel on the offense yet.

The only thing that is holding us back is the offensive line. They are not consistent when run blocking. They may be to tall to move flexible or quickly enough to make some of the needed blocks

So far the defense is improved, the O line needs to block the run better, the starting QB needs to get the passing game in sync. We know Morris can air it out so I'm thinking his inefficiency is mental. He will get better or be replaced, Randy's not here.

Hey, we are undefeated! We have young studs who can't get on the field because we actually have experienced players as good as them. Our defense brings pain with its tackles for the first time in years. We have been reduced to complaining about our All ACC RB not being great enough against one of best defenses that is keying on him, and our NFL laden offensive line, 4.3 WR who took top of gator defense for first time in years, and why our 1st round QB is not tearing up everyone with his 3rd OC.

How good are we really, a **** of a lot better than we have been in a long, long time. Good enough to get just a little lucky, win two games and end up in the NC game. That makes us as good as the best 10 teams in the country. Are we good enough to beat FSU and Clemson? I think so, and that probably puts us in the big game. THE U in the NC against anyone is the highest rated game possible. Bama, Ducks, Johnny foosball, VS Canes -- draws more than any other combo. Answer; Good enough to go undefeated and good enough to win the popular vote against any other undefeated team to play Bama. Good enough to beat Bama -- I'll give bama even if you give me 4 to 1.

last year, we couldn't get a first down, let alone a TD, against average or better defenses. Even with awful QB play, we scored against UF, who had a better defense than any team we have played in recent memory.

WE got lit up by awful offenses, awful offenses, like GT, NCSU, Duke, BC, UVA, UNC, and lit up by average or better offensives. We ended that. UF's offense this year was better than any jive turkey offense we played last year.

I said all along, if we could stay on the field with UF, 10-2. If we beat them, 11-1 or 12-0. GT, UNC are JIVE TURKEY, slow, half *** teams. We would win the SEC EAST. We will win the ACC Coastal easy, IF we don't collapse.

Would be nice if we had a QB that played like a 4 year starter that he is at some point.

We will see a motivated team take the field against USF.....I think one of the main reasons is the guys are compeating for playing time and they want to move up the depth chart.

The offense's ceiling is actually very high with guys like Coley and Waters and Gus getting more time and burn. Add in a playmaker like Sandland down the middle and I think once we hit our rhythm, the offense will be a productive unit. I like our defense and love our special teams. Basically we can play very vanilla on O, let our defense and special teams do their thing and win games. We're kind of like Virginia Tech was mid 00's with better top end offensive talent, and those teams won a lot of games. I really wish our O-line would be as good as advertised for once. This unit has zero excuse for underperformance, there is a lot of talent, size, strength and experience at every position and we got guys who are straight up monsters in the run game. I dont get the struggles I see sometimes....

I'm not saying the teams isn't good or wasn't tested against UF. I'm just inquiring to see what others think our ceiling is.

I think we're better than anyone left on our schedule except FSU, as it stands today. We will need to improve in certain areas if we want to beat the Noles. It could happen though.

oh ok i wonder how many threads have we had already about ppl "inquiring to see what others think our ceiling is"
