A 3 hour heart attack. Any youngins who never saw this classic...watch the whole thing from beginning to the end. Includes some great pregame stuff.

Greatest night in the history of Cane football, one the greatest games in NCAA history and a game that changed modern college football.

This team will be honored before the FAU game. Well deserved.

One of the best nights of my life. None of us wanted to leave the Orange Bowl afterwards. Still have my tickets stubs!

In the context of sports, it was for me too. I was already a fan for over 30 years at the time. This game was like the end of the rainbow - an impossible dream fulfilled. I was honestly afraid that I would wake up and find that it was just a dream. I'll never have that feeling about a football game again.

The unsung player of that game - Albert Bentley. Fun game: Count how many blitzing LBs Bentley took out during that game. Kosar gets killed w/out him.

That was my second season being a season ticket holder. When that ball was tipped in the end zone the Old Girl went nuts. Have seen some amazing football in my life.

Fun Facts.. Albert Bently. Immokalee High Graduate. Edgerrin James. Immokalee High Graduate.. Both attend UM. Both drafted by the Colts. And both tore their acl's in their second year in the league. Although Bentley never recovered. James was able to keep playing with modern medicine.

Bentley was a bull that could do it all- run, catch, block. By the way for all the love given to the 2001 stable of RBs, deservedly so, 1983 wasn't too shabby (Bentley, Griffin and Zo).

I think an argument can be made January 2, 1984 was the greatest day in the history of college football. From 1 pm to midnight there were MNC implications and it all culminated with a 2-point attempt (thank you Tom Osbourne) for all the marbles, and in the crazy OB to boot.

I ran into Georgia qb Lastinger a year or so ago and thanked him for clearing one of the hurdles for us when they beat Texas in the Cotton Bowl

I had just moved to Florida in Fall of 83 and started following the team. From the UF loss early in the season to this win I was hooked for life as a UM fan.

WTF was Joe Namath doing on the U bench?

Namath and Schnells were friends. Most people at the time were very excited by Namath's presence and thought it was a nice touch, a cherry on top of the cake.

I was living in a house with a couple of other people. When I left that night, they were watching the game, which had just started. I got back home around 2 in the morning to a scene with a big, empty popcorn bowl and a few other signs of post TV sports watching. The next day, I, when I went out, guys in the middle of Biscayne Boulevard were hawking copies of Miami Herald and the old Miami News with headlines about the game. That was the first I knew that the Canes had won. Thanks for posting the video - I had never seen anything more than the highlights

Epic game. Both teams showed championship class. Underdog surges ahead. Prohibitive favorite comes back, only to have underdog get back in front. But not over until the fat lady sings because favorite gets back in it. Class go for it all. Best part is, if Cornhuskers make the 2 point conversion, Bernie still might have got us into field goal range. No quit in either team. Stars went out and second stringers came up big on both sides. Just great stuff all the way around. No bad calls to flaw the game. Movie quality the whole way. We might have had better teams in the years that followed, but there has never been a better game.

remarkable how skinny the players were back then

And slow. We were in slow motion in the 4th qtr.

I was there, baby!

Got tickets for $40 outside the stadium!

Remember Pat Tie crying because they beat Air Force like 3-0 and he claimed that deserved the NC? (Then we beat them in the opener next season, LOL)

My daughter was born the day before, a New Year's baby, then experienced this marvelous game from the room the next day. Talk about being drained emotionally on back to back days - but a magical week for me.

Great memory on the field after the game.I saw Beno Cook and said" what do you think now Beno"?He looked up and said "unbelievable" the shock on his face told the story.
