December 9, 1967: On this day 57 years ago, the Miami Hurricanes defeated the Florida Gators 20-13 in front of 53,229 fans at the Orange Bowl. Pictured below: Miami defensive end Ted Hendricks sacks Florida quarterback Larry Rentz. Miami players wore a decal on their helmet that read "Get a Gator". The personal rivalry between Hendricks and Rentz went back to their high school days. Both graduated in 1965--Hendricks from Hialeah High School and Rentz from Coral Gables.

I was at that game, my second year at UM. Actually had a class with the Mad Stork. Geez, I must be getting old……

Yeah, I saw Rentz play in the OB against Miami High in 1965. Biggest HS game ever, won by the Stings.

Larry never really made it at the college level. In HS, he was a beanpole, couldn't put on weight.
