Valid points. In regards to recruiting high school these young men today don't trust Miami as a program, so they look for every excuse not to come. It's on us to get over the hump by consistently winning.

We were told that talent acquisition would never be a problem under Mario. The recruiting, player development, and portal acquisitions haven't been nearly good enough on defense - especially in the secondary and to a certain extent DT and LB, too.

Not disputing anything you said. I will add though that I believe (meaning I could totally be wrong) that the DL and LBs have drastically improved via HS recruiting and we are still young there. This next year ought to show us if Scott, Jones, Horton, and Blount are ready to contribute at a high level on the DL along with Lightfoot and McConathy outside with Bain and Mesidor. Same goes for Popo, Bryant, Pruitt and Hayes. Aside from OJ and MAYBE Damari, I have little to no faith in any of the youg guys on the back end (pause).

It’s hard to evaluate. We won several games because our offense scored 40+. If we regress to 2022 levels and are -10 ppg year over year, which is still a top 25 offense nationally, how much do we have to improve by on defense to make up for it

Remember we gave up 25.3 ppg. If we made the same move or -10ppg then we are a top 5 defense, which is completely unrealistic. So what’s the break even point?

As I've said, the portal has way more trash than treasure. The few limited pieces are highly competitive and highly sought after. If you're lucky, you get a player or two, but that's usually it. What's funny is that the posters who see the lack of talent in the portal also criticize the staff later "but Mario couldn't fix it in the portal."

Yeah not that recruits don’t but sheesh these portal guys certainly seem like they come with a lot of baggage as well

Tough task to fix it in the portal when we are so far behind on the priority list
