Zach Carpenter is no stranger to big-time football, as he signed with Michigan, played with Indiana and made honorable mention All-Big 10 last year. The 6’5, 300-pounder met with reporters as he prepares for the national TV opener against the Gators:
On the chemistry of the offensive line: In the offseason, we got together quite a bit. It's important to build relationships outside of football. Obviously, you need to trust each other on the field, but, even outside of football, you can't have those hard conversations with somebody who you don't really know like that. This camp has been great. We've been with each other every day, spent a lot of hours together, and we're on the same page.
On the offense’s development: We're never going to be perfect, but that's always our goal. For us, it's about growth every day. You're either getting better or you're getting worse, but you can't stay the same. We've been working to make growth, even if it's marginal, every single day so that by week one, we're ready to go.
On his excitement for the opening game: Right now, it's still about us. We're just trying to get better, grow together as a team, work on our fundamentals. We start game planning here soon, but right now we're going to keep the main thing, the main thing, and that's getting better.
On whether Cam Ward ever makes him laugh with his trash talk: Pretty much on a daily basis. We like to compete here, so with that comes a lot of trash talk.
