Xavier Restrepo: “I’m expected to make catches like that.”

No matter who is playing quarterback for Miami, they all seem to find #7. Xavier Restrepo met with the media after practice to discuss the win against UF and more:

On his climb up the all-time receiving yards list: There is definitely a lot more to do. Being on that list is everything you could dream of as a kid, so it'll be a great honor to be listed amongst Hall of Famers. That all comes with the hard work and with the winning. So I'm not not focused on that. Only thing that matters is this team. [But] I won't take that for granted. It's definitely a great, great milestone in my career.

On his first-down catch early in the game: I feel like I'm expected to do that. Make catches like that. I just tell Cam, “Give me a chance and I'll take care of the rest.” He already has enough on his plate, and so do all the receivers and O-line. A receiver’s job is when the ball comes, it's yours.

On adjusting his routes: I study a lot of film and I have played a lot of football. A lot of people run the same stuff out of different looks. There’s only a certain amount of defenses that are made up around the world and football. Just studying personnel, motions, how they react. I feel like I know the coverage during every single play.

On the passing game: We're nowhere near what we're capable of. But we did have a decent day on Saturday and just shows you a little bit of how dangerous we are as an offense. We're nowhere near where we need to be. Cam said it coming in Sunday, Monday. We have a long way to go, but we're in a really good place right now. We just need to keep on climbing.

On being in the spotlight: We definitely don't change our mindset. We have a culture built here that it's hard work Monday through Friday, have fun on Saturday, rest on Sunday, get your bodies back right. And it's the same thing over and over again. Nothing changes about the way we work, the way we do things here at the U. Pedal to the metal the whole entire season ever since January.

On being an underdog for most of his life: Being the underdog, I feel like God has put me through a certain journey. I'm a big believer in Christ, and I feel like he's put me through a certain journey that only I can handle. So I'm thankful. I wouldn't change anything.

On Cam Ward: There's not much to say, he's just a special player. Since the day he came, he’s been very talkative, very vocal. The team has trusted him with everything. There's a reason why we trust him. You've seen this Saturday. But I mean, he's a great leader, great chief, you know, and I mean, we're all fully behind him. And again, we can't wait to take the field again with him.

Great player and great person, the epitome of how putting in the work pays off. He could put up some ridiculous numbers this year if things go the way we think/hope they will. Love the kid and so glad he is a Cane.

Going to be a sad day when he’s not here. We ( in a way) take him for granted. He is so important for this team.

I saw someone say his pro potential is debatable 🤣

A guy with his quickness, change of direction, hands, run after the catch ability, grit, and passion for the game will make a name for himself on Sundays. He'll go in the mid rounds and should contribute from the slot right away for whoever drafts him.

So similar to Berriors when he was a leader on the team. I would trust him with my life on 3rd down lol I think X has more juice down the field tho, broken tackles and getting vertical.
