Second-year Hurricanes wide receiver Colbie Young opened up about his impressive physical transformation and the upcoming season with media members after Miami’s Wednesday’s practice. With a notable increase in strength and speed, Young looks ready to build on an impressive second-half of the season last year.

When asked about his physical transformation, Colbie Young credited the Miami strength and conditioning staff with keeping him in top shape. "I'm around 213 [pounds] now," he said, attributing his weight to a combination of shedding fat and adding muscle. This change has enabled him to be better equipped to battle with defenders and exploit mismatches. He says he weighed around 220 pounds when he arrived from junior college last year.

Young further elaborated on the significance of his physical transformation, saying, "The trainers are doing an amazing job keeping me in the best shape so I can have a long-lasting season. Just nutrition and all that to make sure I'm great."

One aspect that stands out about the new and improved Young is his dedication to building connections with his teammates. He mentioned how he and quarterback Tyler Van Dyke have been working hard during the offseason to develop chemistry. "Tyler emphasizes every weekend that we need to do routes on air when we were in the off-season, you know, just to build a connection. We need to be able to think all the time," Young revealed, highlighting the importance of their constant communication and understanding on the field.

Moving on to discuss the team's newest receivers, Young had nothing but praise for the likes of Shemar Kirk and Tyler Harrell. "They're very fast receivers, you know. They can create space, they can create separation. They are great playmakers and very confident receivers," he said.

Speaking about the team's overall depth, Young highlighted the increased competition in the receiver room. "It creates competition, you know. Coach KB is trying to build that old how they used to play, you know, when he had a lot of competition in his room. So he just wants to build the best receivers. He wants us to be dogs," Young emphasized.

When asked if anybody in particular had stood out early in camp, Young quickly answered freshman Ray Ray Joseph.

"Ray Ray, he's a great guy, you know. Speedy guy when he gets the ball in his hands, he's very explosive," Young said. Joseph's speed and explosiveness make him a formidable presence in the receiving corps and adds another layer of excitement to the team's offense.
