Williams on UNC's defense and how he's improved over the bye

After Wednesday’s practice, Miami starting QB Jarren Williams spoke on what he’s been seeing from UM’s next opponent, North Carolina, on tape so far.

“I feel like they’re a tough team. They fly to the ball,” Williams said. “Coverages wise, the safeties and the DBs, we’re really going to treat it just like we treat every other game. We’re excited to play them… You can tell the team is real hungry, everyone is working hard.”

After a tough battle to the end in the opener against the Gators, Williams felt that having a bye week was critical for their preparations for the upcoming game against UNC.

"The extra week is a huge help," Williams said. "We get to go through the game plan and then by the next week, we really solidified the game plan. We might cut some things out, we might add some things in, but it really gives us that extra everybody knows we're on the same page. Getting that repetition is really good."

One area Williams has been looking to improve on in the off week has been going through his reads quicker and holding the ball for a shorter amount of time after taking 10 sacks in UM’s first game against Florida.

“I would say my pocket presence, not watching the rush. Every play, keeping my eyes down the field and, if you have to run, then you have to run,” Williams said. “But when you watch the rush, you tend to run out the pocket when you can step up and make a throw. I just feel like I’ve been really making that a point of emphasis this week of not watching the rush, just keep my eyes on my progressions and getting the ball down the field to my receivers.

“I’m very comfortable. I just feel like I have to go out there every day and give it my all and help the team any way I can.”

Last week, OC Dan Enos said that Williams missed an open WR Jeff Thomas a few times and Williams agreed with that sentiment.

"I had him on a mesh route and we had a Z and I've got to be aware of that," Williams said. "Against our defense they never give us that look. Just understanding the defense and what they give me, I've got to be able to make that. I missed him a couple times."

I'm expecting a major improvement from game 1 to game 2 for Williams, and not just because UNC's defense is not as formidable as UF. His "welcome to college football" moment is now behind him. I dont forsee him being as hesitant as he was against UF and therefore can see him taking more chances down the field, not just because the chances will be there, but because he knows those chances were missed before, in which he has taken complete ownership.

Book it! JW will ball out on Saturday night!

The heels won’t have the pass rush that Florida has nor do they have the corners that Florida has. We
Will block better and our guys will be more
Open. Book it

unc corners are better. they will at least tackle. how anyone watching our game vs uf thinks there corners are great is beyond me. go back and watch it. Marco and cj constantly got beat but warren didn't see or chose not to throw to our receivers and both of them gave half *** efforts trying to tackle unless it was an easy tackle from behind like Marcos on Deejay

I think JW breaks out. I’m telling you J4 is going to really dig in and go big down the sidelines for at least 1 score. I’m glad the kid stayed and battled even though he had kosi and martell infront of him. We have a good one.

As far as coverage ability goes what makes you think UNC corners better than UFs ? If anything I think it’s more our receivers were just getting open because they’re good, not because UF CBs suck and are worse than UNCs

just want us to not commit a penalty when jt4. rips one to da house.. or anyone of our speedster.. didn't it happen in the game vs gayturd

jarren will be ready and will have the game slow down for him more that isn't my worry. 4, Brevin and Deejay imo need to take games like this and be on a mission to be 1st team All ACC with their performance from now until the end

Stop, their corners are not better

I really think they won’t score a touchdown, only a field goal

...then again I dnt see them driving down the field

The worse thing he can do is worry about making a mistake. We have a great defense and our best teams took offensive chances knowing the defense would bail them out.
