On Thursday afternoon, Tre Donaldson, a guard transfer from Michigan, committed to the Miami Hurricanes, marking Jai Lucas's third addition this offseason, following Indiana's Malik Reneau and TCU's Ernest Udeh Jr.

What does Tre’s choice mean for Jai Lucas and the Hurricanes, and how will the staff continue to explore the promising portal class before it closes? CIS breaks down the impact of Tre’s addition.

True & Experienced Guard

After two years at Auburn, he played in March Madness while playing for the Tigers. He then chose to transfer to Dusty May's team at Michigan, where he was named the starting point guard. He had a successful season that led the team to the Sweet 16.

According to Charles Barkley, Tre is his favorite player to watch.

Donaldson played in all 37 games for Michigan this season, where he scored a career-high average of 11.3 points, grabbed 3.5 rebounds, and dished out 4.1 assists per game over 31.1 minutes while shooting 43.3% from the field and 37.5% from three-point range.

One less thing to worry about

Despite the need to finalize the entire roster, it's clear that Tre Donaldson has firmly secured the point guard position since joining the Hurricanes.

Miami is now looking to secure a backup guard from either the portal or the 2025 recruiting class, ensuring they have a talented player to learn from in Donaldson, who brings valuable point guard experience.

Has Ice in his veins

If you weren't watching March Madness this year, then you wouldn't know how big Tre Donaldson came up for the Michigan squad when they needed someone to get a bucket.

In March, he stepped up for his team not just once but two times. In the first round against UC San Diego, he made a crucial shot with two minutes left, regaining the lead for the Wolverines, which UC San Diego couldn't recover from. Then, in the second round against Texas A&M, he executed an incredible left-handed layup, putting the Wolverines ahead by two possessions and pretty much securing the win for Michigan.
