Gulliver Prep hit the transfer market as hard as anyone this offseason and added a bunch of talented players. With all this new talent comes increased expectations. Rising senior and 3-star DT Westley Neal gave his take on the team heading into this upcoming season.
“We added a whole bunch of talent plus the talent we had. We just have to bring the team together and build that bond. We can be really good. We just have to put our mind to it.”
One of the biggest transfers that Gulliver was able to secure was 4-star 2020 DE Donell Harris. Having a player of that caliber next to him makes Neal even more excited for the season.
“That takes a lot of the stress off of me because I am always getting double and triple-teamed during the games. Him on the other side of me helps a lot.”
With some more help along the line, Neal is looking to capitalize and put up big numbers this season.
“About 20 plus sacks. 40 plus tackles for loss. I’m also trying to get a touchdown in.”
Neal specifically mentioned Indiana, Pitt, Rutgers, and Miami as schools recruiting him the hardest.
“I’m close with the Miami coaches. We talk here and there, about every other week. They tell me to come on an official.”
Neal last visited Miami for Paradise Camp in June and liked what he saw.
“It was good. I like the environment. I like how they have the former players teaching the defensive linemen. Teaching them techniques and stuff like that.”
Neal expects a much-improved team when Miami takes the field in 2019, but he is specifically excited to watch the defense play.
“I like how the defense is looking this year. They have a lot of young athletes. I like the attitude they have. They are not scared of anybody. I like how aggressive they are.”
Neal will likely take an official visit to Indiana, Pitt, Rutgers, and Miami before making a decision sometime near the February national signing day.
