Almost everybody you talk to around the Miami program singles out LB Wesley Bissainthe as a potential breakout player in 2024. He met with reporters to discuss the Gator game, the scrimmages and more:

On the opener against UF: We've been working really hard, man. I'm very excited to just go out there and lay it all on the line. We can show what we've been doing and how hard we've been working.

The excitement level is through the roof. Finally getting down to the business. Guys are very excited and we're just ready to get to work. That’s it.

On his preparation for UF QB Graham Mertz: Watching film and picking up different tendencies, everything they do. He’s a great player. They’ve got great players. We’ve got great players. It’s just drawing up different schemes to match up with what they do. Now we have to go out there and execute.

On preparing for the road environment: At our practices, our coach plays loud noise before the ball gets snapped. They do that so we get used to it when we come to the game.

On who won the scrimmage: I don't really like to look at who won or who lost because at the end of the day, we're not playing each other. We play an opposing team. Both sides had good plays and we competed. That's good for the team and that's going to help us in the long run.

On the source of the team’s confidence: We put in the work. That's where your confidence comes from. Putting in the work every day, studying, working out, just having your mental right. All that contributes on the field. I feel like we’re ready.

On the progress of the younger players in the room: The young linebackers came a long way. Cam Pruitt, Bobby Washington, they came a long way from the spring. I'm excited to see what they do this season. I will continue being a leader for them and an example for them and answer whatever questions they have for me.

I’m banking aa big portion of my optimism on this LB crew. Our linebackers looked like total dog**** last season vs UL and Rutgers at times, including Wes. But Kiko is the goods, Alderman is quality, Wes looks like he’s spent the entire offseason putting in the work, Chase is back and the young guys should start to take that next step. If they man the middle like I believe they will, we’ll shut down Mertz’ dink and dunk game and set ourselves up for a great year. LBs need to Step Up!!!!

I love reading that no player yet has said anything negative or downplayed anything with the gaytors. It’s been all business. Hoping that means our guys are locked in!

Looking forward to a big uptick in play from that group. I know it's not much to say we have to replace Flagg's numbers but we do. We replace 4 of the top 7 tacklers from last year and two of them were lbs. Old school level Miami lb's used to be difference makers. Please bring that back!

LB is now a strength. Hard to win with it not being one.
