Wesley Bissainthe was tabbed a potential breakout player all offseason, and he helped spearhead a strong defensive effort on Saturday. Bissainthe met with reporters after practice to discuss the state of the team:

On the difference in culture since he arrived: I see a huge difference, man. You see what happens when you put your head down to work. That's all I can say. We heard all the noise. Just put our head down. We kept working. We're going to continue to do that.

On continuing to get pressure without Bain: We have probably one of the best defensive line groups in the country and it shows. I love those guys. They free us up to go run and hit. Bain is definitely a key part of the D line, but I feel like we have no drop off. The next guy up is going to perform and do what he has to do.

On staying focused after UF: We train for everybody the same. We're gonna attack each week the same way. We're not letting up on nobody. We're going to keep our foot on the pedal. Treating each game the same way. We're going full force at it.

On whether the U is back: I don't really like the feeling to that. I just want to win, man. My focus is on the field. I don't care about nothing else. I just focus every day coming in and being consistent, doing what I got to do to lead this team to where I know we want to be and I know where we could be. That's my focus. I'm not really focused on “the U is back.” Nah, I'm keeping the main thing, the main thing.

On why recruits should come to Miami: The people, man. The people, the coaches, they just want to see you be great. They put you in a position to be great. And that's all you can ask for. You want a coach to lead, mentor you, and just want to see you do good. I can honestly say that every coach here does that for us. They really care about us. They want us to work. And they push us every day

On the players that stood out to him: Probably Tyler Baron, Cam Ward. You said defense, so probably Tyler Baron. That guy works hard. I'm happy to see It translates to the game and I'm happy to see that he got off to a good start. I can't wait to see what he does for the rest of the season.

This is the quote that stood out to me.

You can tell the media team has trained the players to answer this question because its going to be thrown their way 100 times the more wins we accumulate. Good answer.

Mario came from the era of very little talking off the field..just work hard and practice harder....but major trash talking on the field come gameday. You heard nothing from these kids all Fall and Spring ball. They were quiet as ****. Then come game time? They let UF have it every chance they could! Loved it! Thats ole school Miami mentality.

One of my favorite things that Mario has done since he's been here is really prioritize kids that simply love ball (Pause, zero Diddy). He lives and breathes this ****, it's almost robotic, he's like the Terminator where his entire life, literally all of it, is football, football, football.

He wants to surround himself with the same kind of kids, and I'm not saying he's not going after the best athletes and players at the end of the day, but it seems to me like he really connects most with the kids who are serious about the game. In a group of 85, we know there will be some who might not be all-in on winning, who will have a "me first" attitude...it's inevitable. And we know if we start to lose some games, it can fracture a team. But still, with all that being said, I think there's definitely something there to the character of kids he prioritizes the most. He wants kids who will work the hardest. It's something he's said about Cam since Day 1. He brings it up in almost every presser. Hard work works.

I'm so **** excited about this team. I have been, quietly, since the spring window. You could just see the writing on the wall. But now that we are actually able to see these kids in games, I'm starting to have a really difficult time finding pants. Let's just continue to stay healthy, and continue to improve. We got a real shot to have as good a season as we've had in a very, very long time. And IMO a good bit of it has to do with how many of the kids on this team are really hard working, nose to grindstone, blue-collar kids who just want to compete. All that **** starts from the top and he starts drilling that when he meets these kids in 9th and 10th grade.

to paraphrase Logan Roy -- we are now serious people, again...

How many teams could lose a player the caliber of Bain and not miss a beat through 2 games? it may still bite us in the a*s later if he does not return, but so far so good.
