Don’t count on the portalThe class is a complete failure. This is worse than missing the playoffs and worse than losing to Georgia Tech and Cal. Those losses will be forgotten next year, but this failure in recruiting will linger with us for many years to come. In other words, this seals it for Mario here at Miami.... he's failed. Stick a fork in him because he's done. Even if he sticks around many more years, it's just gonna be a slow death at this point.
Unfortnuately, the problem can't be fixed. Usually when I post mopey stuff, it's because I know a lot of people read these boards and I'm hoping a few choice words will light a fire under someone's *** like hey, the fans are paying attention, they know we're cheaping out.
But this can't be fixed.
Even if we sign the #1 class in 2026 (we won't, but just say we do), that STILL doesn't make up for the failure that this class was. If you average a #1 class with a #15 class, that gets you to #8 for a 2 year haul. That's not anywhere close to the Oregons or Ohio States of the world. So this class, by itself, pretty much guarantees that Miami won't be back for at least another 3 to 4 years minimum, and that's ASSUMING we fix whatever the **** went wrong this cycle.
I was a Mario supporter up until today. No more. Even with an elite portal haul, he can't come back from this. A #15 class is irredeamable. That's a hole in the roster that can't be made up.
The caveat, of course, is that my expectation and the bar I set for Miami is to compete for natties. If you're happy with a 10 win ceiling and your highest aspiration is to make the playoff one day and win the ACC, then #15 isn't anything to cry too much about. But that's not the Canes I grew up with and not what I signed up for when I joined Canes Connection. I'm not interested in "upper-mid tier."
There's nothing more to say, because nothing that is said is helpful or constructive. This is a class you don't recover from or come back from. You don't go to physical therapy after getting your brains blown out. That's where we are. So what's said now are just words, nothing more. There's nothing more Cristobal can do. He'll join the ranks of Coker, Shannon, Golden, Richt, and Diaz. And in 5 or 6 years, we'll do it all over again.
We do not have a massive talent advantage over all our opponents, especially not on the defensive side of the ball.Don’t count on the portal
Besides ward
Mario has been *** in the portal
Mario ceiling is 10 wins
And that is with a generational talent at qb
And a massive talent advantage against his opponents
It’s just that the coaching handicap is too big for the talent to overcome
I’ve been saying all along this class is basically norvell
This is exactly what happened to norvell last year
If you go by recruiting rankings over that past 4 yearsWe do not have a massive talent advantage over all our opponents, especially not on the defensive side of the ball.
There has been tremendous cycling of talent since Mario got here - a product of the transfer portal. We had 40 new players alone last year. FSU also had the same numbers. If you go by recruiting rankings over that past 4 years
No one besides Clemson and fsu is remotely close to our rankings
Rankings maybe but not when we see them on field. There's a massive disconnect from the rankings to the product on SaturdayIf you go by recruiting rankings over that past 4 years
No one besides Clemson and fsu is remotely close to our rankings
