While not ideal to have a player come in over weight, especially a transfer that should be more in the "high character, good work ethic" culture Mario is trying to build, him being overweight in Spring could help explain why a lot of people were writing him off. He aint a big guy so if he loses his quickness and twitch, he aint overpowering many people and was likely getting washed pretty easily. If he lost that weight and has his twitch back I could see him getting more snaps. And by more I mean give us 10-12 quality snaps a game. No way do we want him as our every down player and I dont think he was brought here to do that.

he may have tried to bulk up, but found that he wasn’t as good of a player at that weight. Look at Calijah Kancey at Pitt. Dominated as a 260lb DT. He leads the team in sacks and TFL and will be a good rotational piece.

Legit first thing that popped in my head… not gonna go the easy route thinking it was laziness on his end but maybe wanting to match size bumping up in weekly talent.

Glad he realized and embraced his little niche and keeps making plays for us in rotation

Doesn’t surprise me coming from you
If wanting to replace a 6th year senior who is the 6-9th DT in the rotation with someone else younger and with more upside makes me some kind of bad person then so be it.

I understand your position but it does allow you to redshirt those younger players.
