When Rueben Bain went down with a soft-tissue injury early in the first quarter, Canes fans were looking for someone to step up. Tyler Baron answered the call, with a sack and multiple pressures. He met with reporters after the game to discuss his performance:
On his first game as a Hurricane: I just enjoy the culture that Coach Cristobal has preached to us. I'm just happy to be here, to be honest. Just excited to be a part of it.
On losing Rueben Bain: We hate to have a guy like that out for a short time. But you’ve gotta keep rolling with the punches. Next man up type mentality. So we just regroup and keep going.
It says a lot about the depth. We’ve got a lot of top guys in the room. It’s a big thing when the group can come back together. Coach Taylor can get us lined back up and just keep playing ball.
On Cam Ward: Cam did an amazing job. I know he wants a few plays back, but he did a great job. He's a great player, and he leads us the right way.
On the culture: Coach Cristobal has a worker's mentality. We're glad to get this win, but it's behind us. We're just getting ready for next week.
A win is a win, so you're happy to get one and put a W in that box. But we're on to the next week. We're ready for our next opponent.
On Florida’s offensive line: They gave us a lot of things that we thought we were going to see in film. Our coaches did a really good job scheming us up and getting us coached up on what we were going to see. I think we were well prepared and we'll be the same for the next game.
On playing on in the Swamp: Your goal is to get on them and get on them early. I think we did a great job. Coach has had us prepared and I think we did the right thing.
On whether it was cool to dance to “Won’t Back Down” in the 4th: Definitely. It was a good feeling.
On winning on national TV: We sent the right message to whoever wanted to receive it. But for us, it was just really proving to ourselves that we are who we say we are.
