Good morning, folks! It sure does feel great to have football back, even if we still can’t step outside without sweating through our shirts. Saturday was our official introduction to the 2024 season. Miami kicked off the schedule with a 41-17 bludgeoning of the Florida Gators in Ben Hill Griffin.
Let’s start with Ward. The prime jewel of the offseason as a transfer from Washington State, the signal-caller stepped in as Tyler Van Dyke’s replacement. Ward was electric in the game, completing 26 passes out of 35 and getting 385 yards passing through the air and had three touchdowns with an interception.
Cam Ward was sitting in the backfield long enough to deliver some unbelievable balls to the receivers.
After the first drive of the game, Rueben Bain came off of the field by limping and did not return to the game. Cristobal told reporters it was a calf injury and will take 1-2 weeks to heal per reporters.
The Miami front seven was heralded as one of the best we’ve seen in recent years in Coral Gables. Facing a weak Gators offensive line, Miami's defensive line caused havoc. The Hurricanes had three sacks on the day with Tyler Baron, Jaden Harris, Elijah Alston, and Kiko Mauigoa getting to the quarterback.
Thank you Miami Hurricanes fans. When the stadium got quiet the Canes fans were the ones that made the noise.
