**South Dade WR Tyre Brady was in attendance for the Virginia Tech game over the weekend. I asked Brady when he planned on making his decision, and he said he wants to pull the trigger for Miami in the near future. Brady has been a take for Miami throughout much of the process, but that is up in the air right now. It is obvious that Miami is still looking for receivers in this class and Brady is as talented as they come, but his on-field attitude continues to be something to monitor. We will learn more about this soon.
**Although there was talk earlier in the summer that Miami commit Chris Herndon could be a kid who the ‘Canes let walk, that does not appear to be the case right now. I’m told that the staff has been in constant contact with the Georgia product and the coaches have even thrown around the idea of him playing some defensive end at Miami, which he has been very receptive to. A lot will depend on if Derrick Griffin is able to qualify and if Miami lands another WR/TE hybrid such as David Njoku.
**This news might sound repetitive, but the ‘Canes remain in a good spot to land Dwyer’s Johnnie Dixon on his announcement date of November 30th. The West Palm Beach product was in Tuscaloosa last weekend for the Alabama-LSU game, but I’m told that the Tide did not make as big of a jump as some would have expected.
**CanesInSight’s HurricaneGlory was the first to post last week that St. Thomas Aquinas DL Anthony Moten would make his college announcement this week. Today, that news was confirmed and Moten is looking to announce on the radio on Wednesday night. The athletic DE is reportedly down to Miami and Florida State and all of the buzz I have heard over the last week is towards Miami. Aquinas’ program is generally pro-Miami as well and from speaking to Coach Rocco Casullo a few months back, Miami was definitely a program that he believed would be a good fit for Moten.
**The obligatory Dalvin Cook and Sony Michel update – With Cook, most of the talk surrounding him right now has Florida State coming on hard. Don't let anyone fool you though, Miami is in the game. The staff continues to come after him hard, despite any talk that they’ve backed off. After Miami’s lackluster performances the last two weeks, Michel’s interest is trending downward. He was in attendance for the Wake Forest game and that did not help Miami’s chances either.
**Keep an eye on Dallas DE prospect Trey Carter. I exchanged messages with him a few days ago and he told me that Miami is coming on strong with Jethro Franklin and Brennan Carroll leading the way. I will be interviewing him this week so keep an eye out for that.
**I posted this on the board after my interview with him last week, but I would be slightly surprised if Dennis Turner ended up signing with Miami. This is no knock on him as a player because he has been very productive from the receiver spot this season, but I think that Miami is looking in another direction for the defensive backfield. From talking to Turner, I get the sense that the ‘Canes staff has not been talking to him all that much.
**Another South Dade prospect at the game was 2015 LB Doyle Grimes, who I have brought up recently on the website. Grimes has not received any offers yet due to his lack of film, but expect those to come flowing in over the next few months. Grimes is as close to a Miami lock as it gets and he would be a nice early commit if the ‘Canes offer. Micheal Barrow has been in contact with him. He is already weighing 215 pounds at 6-2 and has played safety in the past, so he can move for a prospect of his stature. He was extremely impressive against Killian a few weeks ago.
**2015 Monarch ATH Calvin Ridley is someone else who I’ve been mentioning a lot of. The versatile athlete has been to multiple schools throughout his high school career, which is something that Miami will need to take into account before offering and I believe that is the holdup with his offer. If offered, Miami would jump into the driver’s seat for the combination of Ridley and teammate Shawn Burgess-Becker.
**This is the best time of the year to be a recruiting fan, not only because it’s the stretch run for the coaches, but also because this is when season highlight videos begin to emerge. Who will have the most entertaining video in South Florida this season? My sleeper pick is Jackson LB Osband Thompson. Thompson has some of the best instincts I’ve seen in a high school player and had one of the most dominant performances I’ve seen from a linebacker last Friday against Northwestern when he was constantly in the backfield and made multiple fourth down stops by himself. His athleticism and quick reads make up for any size deficiencies he has. As DMoney said when we were watching the game together, he is “Jermaine Grace without the hype.” I would really like to see which school gets the steal of the year in him.
