Everyone is understandably eager for a run of commitments. I get the sense that the movement will come closer to late June-early July, as players get their visits in. It seems to be a national trend. But I'll start with some names with positive momentum.
- Miami views OL Cortez Smith (Atlanta) as the top IOL in the country, along with C Seuseu Alofaituli. He visits this weekend for the third time and Miami is in a strong position. A great visit weekend could push Miami over the top.
- OL Jaden Wilkerson (Orlando) is a name coach Mirabal loves. He is rising after a good official visit last weekend and is a name to monitor.
- Miami likes where it stands with LB Jadon Perlotte (Buford, GA) even after he rescheduled his visit for next week. If he makes it down, which everyone expects, the Canes could make a major move.
- In terms of RBs, Byron Louis (American Heritage) seems to have more buzz than Shekai Mills-Knight (Chatanooga) right now. Miami was really impressed with Louis on the visit. It's possible Miami goes with only RB due to their evaluations of Girard Pringle (Seffner, FL) and Jordan Lyle (STA). The staff is extremely high on both.
- CB Timothy Merritt (Birmingham, AL) is a name first reported in the Bank, and his relationship with Chevis Jackson continues to grow. He is visiting this weekend and could be a name to watch. DT Derry Norris (Spruce Creek, FL) is in the same boat. Miami loves his athleticism.
- LB Gavin Nix (IMG) is another guy with positive momentum. I've heard Jonathan Vilma comparisons- not saying he will have that career, but in terms of playing style, IQ and leadership.
