The Bank (2/20) (workout buzz)

This is more of an ATM than a full-fledged Bank, but I wanted to give everyone the latest I'm hearing from workouts.

Disclaimer: they aren't playing football. We can't read too much into this stuff. But the early contributors often stand out immediately, as we saw when OJ Frederique and Jordan Lyle arrived last June. Here are some early names to watch on Greentree:

- Miami landed a bunch of talented DBs in the Portal, but nobody is generating more buzz than Wazzu transfer CB Ethan O'Connor. His combination of length and twitch stands out, and he plays with an edge.

- Amari Wallace (Central) suffered an ugly leg injury before his senior season, but it turned out to be a relatively clean bone break. He's fully healed up and making plays. Wallace had multiple picks today.

- CB Chris Ewald (Chaminade) is opening some eyes. He was the first name mentioned when I asked for early standouts.

- RB Girard Pringle has shown efficient movement and cuts. A source pointed out that Pringle's ability to change directions gives him an edge over fellow track speedster (and current SMU Mustang) Chris Johnson, Jr.

- All three wide receivers (Malachi Toney, Josh Moore, Daylyn Upshaw) have flashed the potential to play early. It will be fun to watch who emerges in spring with the pads on.

- The most improved player on the team may be redshirt freshman OG Juan Minaya. He looked overmatched at times as a freshman, but has been working hard and making real strides. Some believe his emergence contributed to Frankie Tinilau's decision to enter the Portal. Minaya has legit size (6'6, 330) and is responding well to Alex Mirabal's coaching.

Miami has recruited DE better than any position since 2021. It's not so much that Bain couldn't be effective at DE, but there's a hole at DT with the departure of Barrow, Clark, Cook, Campbell and Bain's the plug baby.

If a top line DT is available in portal then yea, but I like the big bodies we got now.

It's not a necessity unless we get an injury to a top 4 guy IMO.

For whatever reason I didn’t pay much attention to Lowe during recruitment. Maybe because we were all wrapped up in Pickett/Hanks etc etc etc

Somehow a 5 star kid kinda got slept on here I think
