TE Campbell building relationship with Field

With the Miami Hurricanes looking to improve their roster numbers at tight end during the 2021 cycle, South Paulding (GA) 3-star Miles Campbell was the most recent tight end to land an offer from TE coach Stephen Field last week.

“We talked for a while about the U and how it’s a great place to be for tight ends, how they put a lot of tight ends in the league. He just wanted to start building a relationship with me,” Campbell said of Field. “I was thankful for the opportunity and very excited because I know Miami is a good place for tight ends to be.”

With a host of successful NFL tight ends coming out of the UM program, their “Tight End U” tradition carries a lot of weight for most recruits at the position, and Campbell says it’s no different for him.

“My interest is definitely very high knowing that they are Tight End U,” Campbell said. “I do think about going to the NFL, but I want to get my degree first. I know Miami definitely develops players that go to the NFL, especially at my position. For me, I’m very physical and have high energy. On my highlight tape, yeah, I have the catches, but with my blocking, I don’t stop until the whistle blows. I make sure they know they’re getting blocked out of the picture.”

Another point of interest for Campbell regarding the Canes? The city of Miami itself, which he recently visited for his sister’s track meet.

“It’s a great place to be in – there are certain parts that are better than others, but that’s with every city,” Campbell said. “But even though I’ve never been to the Miami campus specifically, overall, the city of Miami is a great place to be at. So I just have to do my research on UM as a whole, and see how it goes.”

Campbell hopes to make his first visit to Coral Gables sometime this May, assuming the coronavirus situation has been alleviated by then, and is looking to learn more about Miami’s new offense.

“It’s a new offense, so I haven’t had a chance to see it in any games,” Campbell said. “I’ll be sure to pay attention to the offense this season.”

It was a strong season on the field for Campbell in 2019, as he recorded 54 catches for 620 yards and 7 TD receptions for the Spartans and his junior film started catching the eye of coaches around the country.

“I felt like it actually went pretty well. I averaged over 10 yards per catch and averaged almost a touchdown each game,” Campbell said. “So I’m looking to improve on that and possibly get 2 touchdowns per game, I’m going to be the #1 target now that our star receiver (Parker Self) is going to Florida State now. I think my numbers are looking to really improve and I’ll have a pretty big senior season.”

His third high school season led to a boost in Campbell’s recruitment, as he’s recently landed offers from Tennessee, Florida State, Florida, Michigan State, and Ole Miss in the past few weeks.

“It’s going well, just have to keep building relationships up,” Campbell said. “There’s still some schools that are evaluating me, so I just have to keep building those relationships and take it from there.”

Tennessee is one of the programs that are standing out for Campbell, and he visited Knoxville for their Junior Day event back in early February.

“It was dope, it was good. I really like Tennessee,” Campbell said. “It’s in a city, but it’s not as big of a city as Atlanta, so there’s not too much going on, but overall I liked it a lot. The coaches are great, even though they had a coaching change from coach (Brian) Niedermeyer to coach (Joe) Osovet. I like them both, so everything’s great over there.”

Georgia Tech is the local school for Campbell, and the South Paulding star was planning to take his first official visit to see this Yellow Jackets this summer in June, but says he’s now having second thoughts about that.

“Honestly, I’m not sure anymore because Georgia Tech is right down the road, so I’m not sure it would be smart to use one of my visits there,” Campbell said. “They shouldn’t have to pay for me to go 45 minutes down the road, I have to think about that. As of now, I’ve been discussing possibly taking officials to Michigan and Florida State.”

That wasn’t the only recruiting plan that Campbell changed up recently. The 6-3 220 pound prospect was expecting to release a top 11 schools list last week, but eventually decided against it.

“I took a step back because other schools are still evaluating me so if I were to put a top 11 out there, it could possibly rub them the wrong way,” Campbell said. “So I just decided to let it go and I could possibly put one out by the end of spring or maybe early summer.”

If Campbell does not come to a decision before his senior year, he says he will most likely put recruiting on hold and announce his choice on signing day in December.

“I’m looking for comfortability, because even if I did get the chance to go to the NFL, I still have to be there for 4 or 5 years to get my degree. Also, relationships I have with the coaches, because it’s not just about football. And then player development, I do want to go to the NFL after school. Also as a person, how the family life is after football.”

So if Miami is looking for TEs and we already have Brantley committed, how long until Metayer decommits because it sounds like he only wants to play offense?

Ill pass on this kid, he has the same profile as Brantley. Ill also pass on Metayer, hes a knucklehead.

Why do u think metayer is a knucklehead
Rumors flying around as to why he transferred back to North Miami. Keep hearing is bc he was undisciplined and was not open to coaching. I believe these to be true bc Central is well coached and North Miami not so much, absence of any discipline.

Plus no one transfers BACK to North Miami. North Miami is a feeder program for Miami Central....Bryan Pata and countless others before.

I dont think kid is penciled in to be here. We'll see.

North Miami has athletes here and there especially from the basketball team but no discipline. The football team would physically fight eachother during games 2 seasons ago. It was a joke dont need kids like that no matter the talent.

Ive said it 100 times. With the amount of talent down here you dont need to settle on kids that have bad character. Dont need knuckleheads get me grinders.

Yea they have a bunch of athletes they just cant put it all together and make a run. Maybe its the discipline issue and them getting sniped by MNW or Miami Central.
