The Canes added a redzone threat with the commitment of Tulane TE Alex Bauman.

The 6'5, 245-pound native of Red Bank, New Jersey has caught 12 TD passes in the past two years for Green Wave, including 7 as a junior. Over his three-year career, Bauman has played 1,553 snaps, 38 games and made 63 catches for 610 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Bauman played 73% of his snaps as an in-line tight end. He played in a run-based offense, but fared much better as a pass catcher (69.9 PFF grade) than as a run blocker (43.7 PFF grade). He only had two drops this year and has dropped 8 passes in 3 years. He is considered a willing blocker with an "all-ball" mindset, as reflected by his role as a core special teamer.

As a true freshman, Bauman made the game-winning catch to beat USC 46-45 in the Cotton Bowl.

Bauman was recruited as a three-star DE out of Red Bank Catholic, and also played basketball:

Bauman chose Miami over Duke and Indiana.
