Wide receiver is South Florida's bread and butter. You can bet your bottom dollar that each recruiting cycle, we will have at least 3-5 national recruits at the position. Things however had taken an ominous turn for a brief moment. The 2020-2022 classes were absolutely dreadful, and it has been showing up via the NFL Draft. The 2023 class was flooded with FBS talent but they have gotten off to slow starts. In 2024, Jeremiah Smith (OSU) & Jacory Barney (Nebraska) had meteoric rises as two of the best receivers in the country, while several others have shown potential and will soon be contributors for their programs. This year is deeper than 2024, but doesn't appear to have any bonafide superstars. Let's take a look.
Joshua Moore, West Broward (6'4" 205) - Started out as a sleeper prospect due to West Broward's lack of prestige, but quickly woke up the recruitniks. Terradacta wingspan with oven mitt hands. Average speed but makes up for it with leaping ability. Boxes out defensive backs like Zach Randolph. Reminds me of Colbie Young. Uber-productive against poor competition. Dominant on camp circuit. Miami signee.
Cortez Mills, Homestead (6'0.5" 165) - Average size, good, not great, speed, but made up for it with some of the most prolific stats in South Florida history. 1,640 yards and 18 TDs as a junior. Heart and soul of the resurgent Homestead program & the focal point of their offense. Dominated Power 4 DBs on the 7 on 7 circuit. Ridiculously smooth route runner with vacuum hands. A lot of similarities to Calvin Ridley. Nebraska signee.
Malachi Toney, American Heritage (5'10.5" 182) - Average size but a complete alpha dog on the field. The best player in South Florida as a senior. This kid dominated the best competition in America on a weekly basis. Ridiculous quickness, silky smooth route runner, suction cup hands. Physical after the catch and will truck a defender. Reminds me of Elijah Moore. Father, Antonio Brown (not that one), played at West Virginia & briefly in the NFL. Reclassified from 2026. Track background. Miami signee.
Naeshaun Montgomery, Miami Central (6'1" 165) - Originally from Rhode Island. Started out at Cardinal Newman before transferring to Miami Central as a senior. Dominant in camp setting. Starred for Raw 7v7. The on-field production doesn't quite match the hype though. Excellent body control and catch radius. Average twitch. 11.35 100 as a junior. Florida signee.
Jamar Browder, Santaluces (6'3.5" 205) - Village Academy transfer. Ridiculous bunnies. Claims 40 inch vertical and looks the part. Jump ball terrorist. Huge hands and makes catching the ball look easy. Tough after the catch. Productive against Palm Beach competition. Also plays basketball. Extremely underrated. Reminds me of a better Kentron Poitier as a prospect. Michigan signee.
Koby Howard, Chaminade Madonna (5'11" 185) - Originally from Pensacola. Played first two years at Pensacola Catholic, then junior year at Western, followed by his senior year at Chaminade. Slot prospect. 70 catches and 808 yards as a freshman. Snapped his leg at Legends Camp as a sophomore & Mario offered him in the hospital room. Recorded 1k receiving yards and 12 TDs as a junior. Injured again as a senior. Crafty route specialist that can go up and high-point the ball. Muscular frame and built to play immediately. 11.38 100 as a junior. Also played baseball. Penn State signee.
Samari Reed, Monarch (6'2" 185) - Started out at Coral Springs. Exploded his junior year as UMass QB AJ Hairston's favorite target. 1100 yards of offense and 16 TDs as a senior. Straight up dog on the field. Played some QB as a senior. Extremely twitchy and very tough after the catch. Track times not impressive. Also played hoops. Ole Miss signee.
Kamare Williams, Palm Beach Central (6'1" 175) - The transfer king. Boynton Beach as a freshman. Atlantic as a sophomore. Briefly at Chaminade Madonna, then attended Palm Beach Central last two seasons. Played mostly safety as a freshman and excelled there. Moved to receiver last three seasons and provided exceptional production there. Playmaker that just finds a way to make the big catch. 7 on 7 star. Track times a bit concerning (11.66 100.) Louisville signee.
Teddy Hoffmann, Atlantic (6'0.5" 175) - St. Andrew's transfer. Human highlight reel. Capped off elite high school career with 240 yard performance against STA. Often compared to Xavier Restrepo, but this kid is bigger and, dare I say, better in high school. Lightning quick on his breaks and separates with ease. Strong hands. Plays way better than track times suggest (12.43 100.) Claims 4.52 40 and 37" vertical. NC State snuck a gem out of South Florida.
Waden Charles, Somerset Academy Canyons (6'2" 185) - Attended Palm Beach Central as a junior before returning back to Somerset. You need him to make a play? Just throw it up and watch him work. Specializes in circus catches and mossing DBs. Made 5 star DBs look like amateurs on the camp circuit. Questions about his foot speed (22.94 200.) Muscular frame that can contribute immediately. Also played some safety & could have been a Power 4 prospect at that position. UCF signee.
Nedrick Boldin, Palm Beach Central (5'11" 185) - Originally from Pahokee. Productive slot prospect with quick feet and great speed. Toughness of a Muck kid. Also a track athlete. Over 100 catches & 19 total TDs last two seasons of HS. Claims 4.53 40. Cousin of Anquan Boldin. Boston College signee.
Cameron Sapp, Miami Palmetto (5'10" 160) - Speedy slot receiver. Good hands and excellent at separating himself. 10.65 100. 44 catches, 607 yards and 8 TDs as a senior. Dad, Cecil, starred at Colorado State at RB and enjoyed a 6 year NFL career. Pitt signee.
Antwaun Parham, Monarch (6'3.5" 195) - Originally from Savannah. Transferred in from Effingham County (GA) ahead of senior year. Big bodied vertical threat. 33 catches, 678 yards (20.5 YPC) and 4 TDs as a senior. Claims 4.5 40 and 37" vert. Tulane signee.
Kenny Williams, Gulliver (5'9" 160) - Another speedy slot prospect. 11.23 100 as a junior. Over 1,000 yards of offense & 12 TDs as a senior. 91 catches and over 1400 receiving yards last two seasons of high school. Also provides value as a returner. FIU signee.
Kyle Washington, Chaminade Madonna (5'8" 165) - Yet another speedy slot receiver. Cut his teeth in the Chaminade aerial attack and put up good numbers as a junior playing with Jeremiah Smith and Jojo Trader. 11.32 100 as a junior. Should be able to contribute on special teams as well. Georgia State signee.
Blake Wallace, Spanish River (6'0" 170) - Production machine from a small school. 3,000 receiving yards and 38 TDs last 3 seasons. Can burn you or route you. 11.12 100 as a junior. Also played safety & was productive there. Underrated. Jacksonville State signee.
Jade Card, Miami Norland (6'2.5" 200) - Started out at South Broward, then transferred to Norland, then briefly transferred to MNW before heading back to Norland. Looks the part. Played good at WR as a junior but production dipped as a senior. Played safety earlier in career and many felt he had a brighter future there. Also played some basketball. FAU signee.
Branden Hoch, St. Thomas Aquinas (6'2.5" 185) - West Boca transfer. Played varsity at North Broward Prep as an 8th grader. Big body target with good hands and toughness. Also played baseball. FAU signee.
Malachi Toney, American Heritage (5'10.5" 182) - Average size but a complete alpha dog on the field. The best player in South Florida as AS A SENIOR This kid dominated the best competition in America on a weekly basis
All these guys shouldve came to UM. This is the speed we need. Jamar Browder, Naeshaun Montgomery, Samari Reed,Cameron Sapp, Branden Hoch (not the fastest but that annoying WR that whoops your ***).
Anyone got Joshua Moores senior highlights? I wanna see how fast he is.
Agree. And he's a BALL PLAYER.
I mean, look what he's doing at QB right now.
He plays bigger than he is, he's super aggressive, tough to tackle, he's like a RB after the catch. Elite route runner as well.
Not to set unrealistic expectations, but I can totally see him competing for X's position next season.
I'm actually very excited about the WR position going forward. Obviously it'll be hard to replace a guy like X, but overall the room is getting a significant boost in ability.
Moore > Horton
Jojo > George
Then you got Ny Carr, Chance Robinson and Malachi competing to replace X.
