We don’t hear about South Florida pass rushers. But three of the best young pass rushers in the league (the Bosa Brothers and Brian Burns) come out of Broward County. Jason Pierre-Paul and Olivier Vernon have made tens of millions and can still play. And the Miami Hurricanes have regularly finished in the Top 5 nationally in sacks led by Chad Thomas, Joe Jackson, Jon Garvin and Greg Rousseau.
This year, the story is length. There are some rangy, athletic prospects with tremendous growth potential. The quality drops off some after the top guys, but keep in mind that some of the players on the TE and LB lists could end up as pass rushers.
Dallas Turner, St. Thomas Aquinas (6’4, 230)- Clean prospect with high ceiling and high floor. American Heritage transfer. Broward County DPOY with 16 sacks. Twitched-up and covers a ton of ground when he has a runway. More straight-line than lateral at the moment. 3.6 GPA. Plays down but has the athleticism to stand up if necessary. Basketball player with length. Lines up as goal-line WR and has the coordination to go up and over defenders. Tore his ACL as a sophomore but is fully recovered. Offers from Alabama, Georgia, Clemson and Miami.
Jabari Ishmael, Columbus (6’5, 210)- Freakishly long prospect with his best football ahead of him. Son of longtime UM strength coach. Wins with length and straight-line speed. Still developing a pass rush ****nal. Plays some off-ball LB for Columbus, which shows his movement skills. Stronger than you’d think given thin frame. Needs to improve pad level to unlock full potential. Offers from Notre Dame, Michigan, Penn State and the Florida schools.
Patrick Payton, Northwestern (6’5, 215)- Miami High transfer. Played safety as a sophomore (sound familiar?) before moving to DE as a junior and putting up double-digit sacks. Not on the Rousseau level of freakiness but plays a similar game. Makes a lot of plays from backside with length and quickness. Dominated a good Columbus line. Stands up and plays down. Finds the ball and plays with awareness. Offers from Miami, Florida, Penn State, Louisville and Mississippi State.
RJ Sorensen, University (6’4, 240)- Recent Nebraska decommitment who plays like an off-brand Bosa brother. Explodes from a low coiled stance. Hard-working, well-schooled pass rusher who knows how to use his hands. Has some tightness but enough athleticism to be effective. Eleven sacks as a junior. Offers from Kentucky, Louisville and Indiana.
Jah-Mal Williams, Cardinal Gibbons (6’4, 215)- Long player with a developing frame. Gets a lot of deflections. Solid athlete with the ability to change directions and beat ballcarriers to the sideline. Still has room to grow as a pass rusher. Offers from Louisville, Arizona State, Syracuse and Utah State.
Jeremiah Peters, Booker T (6’4, 206)- Thin pass rusher with enormous production. Put up 37 TFLs and 25 sacks for the state champion Tornadoes. Plays all over the front and stands up. Deceptively strong. All arms and legs coming off the edge but has the ability to bend and change directions. Verified 4.55 shuttle. Solid with his hands. Offers from Kentucky, Toledo, Western Kentucky and FIU.
Isaiah Finnie, McArthur (6’1, 205)- Hybrid with some juice off the edge. Stands up for McArthur and projects as a rush OLB in college. Plays with energy and will give chase. Flashes nice spin move. Needs to improve overall flexibility as a tackler and rusher. Offers from FAU and Utah State.

Justice Cross, Deerfield Beach (6’2, 225)- Physically strong 3-4 OLB. Loves to pick up ballcarriers and manhandle them. Has experience as down linemen but projects better standing up. Offers from FAU and Colorado State.
Anthony Coaxum, Western (6’3, 230)- Big-bodied DE plays with nice pursuit. Claims offers from FSU and UF.
