Miami made its first addition from the Transfer Portal with 6'3, 198 lefty OF Bobby Marsh from Penn State. Marsh, who played for Miami Director of Program Development Rob Cooper with the Nittany Lions, is from Bellefonte, PA and slashed .310/.384/.490 over his first two seasons.
I spoke with a source with MLB experience who provided the following scouting report on the newest Cane:
Athletic/lean corner outfielder with line drive approach, handsy hitter with bat speed that can get to all parts of the zone and take advantage of mistakes on diverse pitch types. Raw power in the hit tool to be a 5-10 HR guy in any given season and shows it to the middle and opposite fields. Strong performer vs right-handed pitching with the majority of his output stemming from those at-bats. Effective approach allows him to compete vs left-handed pitching as well, and do damage all while having reverse K rate splits striking out less vs LHP as opposed to RHP. Defensively it’s a corner outfield projection, runs well underway and shows instinctual feel to track the baseball in all directions. Can make the routines with ease and be more than capable at the corner positions. Will be an average defender at the ACC level and fits as a solid middle-bottom of the lineup bat that can play vs left-handed starters and provide a productive option after the more productive hitters in a lineup.
We will keep you posted with in-depth coverage of the transfer portal, as we expect many more names to roll in.
