As the excitement builds up for the season opener between the Miami Hurricanes and the Miami (OH) RedHawks on September 1st, Safety Kamren Kinchens met with media to talk about the game, the team’s state of readiness, and how the squad is looking ahead to the 2023 college football season.

New Names in the Secondary Ready to Step Up

When asked about other safeties on the team who may not yet be household names, Kinchens was quick to highlight the importance of Markeith Williams and Jaden Harris. "They should help us tremendously," he said. "They kind of step into that role of rotational guys. We got to get them on the field, especially on third downs, because they're going to make plays on the ball. That’d be key to our success."

No Extra Motivation Needed

The conversation naturally turned to the recent comments by Miami Ohio quarterback Brett Gabbert, who claimed that Miami of Ohio is the "real Miami." Kinchens simply shrugged it off. "No, we don't need any extra motivation. I think we’re motivated enough. We’ll just go out on September 1st and just play."

A Complete Game from the Defense

As one of the defensive leaders, Kinchens elaborated on what he would like to see on Friday night. "Excel in every part of the game. Stop the run, earn third downs, rush the passer, kind of make plays on the ball—just every aspect," he explained.

Defense Expecting Improved Production

The defense has seen a lot of new pieces from last year and a change in scheme. "I think it’s been very good as far as production. The D-line is great, and they're going to get after the quarterback a lot. We’re mixing everything up, giving different looks and being more aggressive in every aspect. I think everybody's stats should be real good," said Kinchens.

Veteran's Advice for the Young Guns

With a number of freshmen and redshirt freshmen expected to see the field for the first time, Kinchens offered some veteran advice. "Just go out there and play the game as you know. You've been playing since you were five, six, seven; it won't really change." He reflected on his own first game experience, "After that first snap, it became regular. You can shake all the jitters off and just notice it's a regular game."

Message to the Fans

As for the fans in the city of Miami, Kinchens urged them to come out and support the team. "It’s the beginning of a long journey, and you're here to kind of show everybody what we've earned throughout this spring, fall, and summer. We're just going to go put it on display."

With a defense that’s looking aggressive, young talent ready to shine, and a team that's feeling motivated, the Miami Hurricanes are all set to take on the Miami RedHawks in what promises to be an intriguing season opener.

Imo, anytime you can use something for extra motivation you do it! Bottom line, we'll see!

This team is in serious trouble this season if they need to use what was meant to be a light hearted quote as motivation to beat a MAC team
