**The big news of the day for Miami's recruiting efforts actually originated in Tallahassee. News broke early this morning that FSU's RB Coach Eddie Gran, who is one of the elite recruiters in the country, would not be with the 'Noles next year. This is very good news for Miami with two prospects in particular, Alex Collins and Stacy Coley.
**With Collins, Gran's departure could change the landscape of his decision. Just reading into Collins' comments on Gran leaving, it seemed to me that he was all set on going to FSU before today's news. The 'Noles are not out of it largely in part to Collins' best friend, John Franklin, still being committed there. Remember, Franklin's commitment to Florida State was one of the main reasons Collins de-committed in the first place. Gran was Collins' main recruiter so that is something to consider here as well. UF is the dark horse contender right now for Collins, but Miami seems to have the inside track, especially with the fact that Miami will get his final visit.
**As I mentioned, the other prospect Gran's departure helps with is Stacy Coley. Things have been in motion with Coley over the past month when the 'Canes have really turned up the heat. Coley's visit this weekend was a success and I've been told for months that FSU was right near the top of his list. Coley's Head Coach Donnell Bennett told me today that Gran was one of Coley's main recruiters at FSU, so that is something else to keep an eye on. As crazy as it might sound, Miami is in the driver's seat for Coley. Someone else I spoke to over the weekend who knows Coley personally said he "is a South Florida kid," and says he "wouldn't fit in at FSU." It will be interesting to see how things continue to develop here considering it has all happened so quickly.
**Keith Bryant told me today that he still has 4 official visits available. When I asked if he was considering taking one to Miami, he responded, "I'm not sure." Bryant has been saying all along (even when he was committed) that he most likely would not be taking an official to Miami, but I just wanted to see if anything had changed with that.
**As CanesInSight's Tito Benach reported earlier tonight, JuCo LB Devante Bond will receive an in-home visit from Al Golden and Jethro Franklin on Thursday night. It's obvious that the staff is trying to lock him up after last weekend's official visit. Bond also told Tito that he weighed in at 6'2", 229 on the visit.
**2014 CB Nigel Patten had a great game against Bolles in Booker T's state championship win last Saturday night. Here are Patten's season highlights: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/1505838/nigel-patten
**The main situation to monitor as far as FSU/Miami recruiting battles go is the future of Florida State's OC James Coley. Coley is a monster recruiter down in South Florida and in charge of the recruitment of Matthew Thomas & Denver Kirkland. Coley is reportedly one of FIU's top choices for their opening. If he leaves, that would benefit Miami tremendously.
