Zamar Wise is a 6'2" 185 pound dual threat Quarterback from Berringer High School in Newark, New Jersey. Wise is currently committed to Rutgers and holds offers from Maryland, Missouri, Syracuse, Temple, UCF and the U. Zamar Wise HUDL
Footwork and Rhythm: Definitely needs to improve and very noticeable on film. Wise will fall away from his target while unaffected to any pressure. He will over stride and his stride distance is all over the map. Also noted inconsistency with his front stride speed. Wise will be very deliberate and lumbering with his front foot in one instance and other times he plants it quick. Overall his footwork needs a complete overhaul. Rhythm also needs to improve. I counted numerous throws in a row where I considered the ball to be late. Targets are thrown to when open not thrown open.
Accuracy/Arm Strength/Mechanics: Good touch on deep balls but some balls left in non-ideal catch radius. Some balls noted to be thrown into double coverage while other prominent reads remain. Noted with good long ball distance at 60 yards on film. Nice intermediate zip on balls with no notable tapering off on its straight line projectory. Good medium compact stroke with his arm. Solid deliverer of the football. Wise does show some variance in arm slotting from throw to throw.
Mobility: Wise shows good strength in the pocket and the ability to extend the play. Does not appear to have that high end top gear that other current Miami targets possess however he is outrunning defenders on film. Also to credit Wise's mobility index he is also used as a punt returner. (Head Coach might want to rethink that though) Wise is Zone read capable and you can run QB power concepts with his above aforementioned strength. Wise is capable on roll outs but does need refinement with his mechanics. Momentum carries him to the side line and doesn't square up consistently to his target.
Roman Rank: Wise is a solid prospect that has some very desirable traits. He has height, elusiveness in the pocket and a live arm. Tracking him in the plus 60 range would make him one of the stronger armed long throwers this cycle. However his footwork is incredibly inconsistent and easily to date the most glaring so far out of all the Miami offers. Lots of result oriented highlights when in actuality the throw was the wrong read or into double coverage. I do not see Wise looking off defenders or throwing to the second read. Ultimately Wise has tools and some upside. Things like footwork can be reigned in and improved upon on the next level but this is someone who needs work on the next level. Roman Rank 3.3 Stars.
