Since it's the off-season, now would be a good time to debut a project I've been working on for a while. Here are some comparisons between Miami skill-position recruits and current NFL players based on skillset and physical gifts. This doesn't mean the recruits will turn out as good as these guys, but it is just a comparison of styles.
Today is the defensive ends.
Demetrius Jackson: Kamerion Wimbley
A more athletic end who suits as an outside linebacker. Jackson is great when getting outside of his blocker and chasing down a scrambling QB. His speed and agility help him make those plays on the outside. However, due to a lack of strength, Jackson rarely ever gets inside and if asked to get inside the tackle’s shoulder he will struggle.

Chad Thomas: Jason Pierre Paul
The physical aspect is what drives this comparison. While JPP had about thirty pounds on Thomas coming out of high school,both have good height and very long arms. This helps them when rushing the QB so they can get good leverage against their blocker. Thomas’ speed off the line is overwhelming and with the combination of his size, it’s very difficult to stop.

Keyon Brown: Jabaal Sheard
Technique and getting low when rushing is why I feel that Brown is similar to Sheard. Both have great hands and use them when going up against a blocker. Their technique is their strong point as they use that to get by Offensive linemen, along with their speed which makes it difficult to handle them,but their best trait is their ability to bend when rushing the passer.

Trent Harris: Ollivier Vernon
While Harris doesn’t have elite defensive ends size, his play and high motor make up for it similar to former Hurricane Ollivier Vernon. Harris gets a good jump off the line and has a good amount of strength to get by his offensive linemen. Harris also has great speed, much more then Olivier Vernon had but the catch for Harris is strength wise he isn’t as close to Vernon. Harris must develop more moves besides using his pure speed or strength to beat every blocker.
