Practice Report 8-6

Wasn't able to get as much info as yesterday, but here is what I have.

-The big news of the day was obviously the return of Seantrel Henderson. He was not fully integrated into the practice yet and was doing work off to the side, getting back into the swing of things. For all the negative talk surrounding him, he looks to be in great shape. Easily the best of his Miami career.

-Ereck Flowers continues to impress. He was still taking first team reps and Henderson is going to have to earn his spot back. I don't think there's any doubt that Flowers will have a role this season as the 6th lineman in power formations.

-Danny Dillard has surprised me with his burst. I still see him as a redshirt candidate because James, Duke, Clements, and Crawford are ahead of him, but he could have a nice role with his size in the future

-The two freshmen QBs have not impressed over the last two days. If I had to rank the two, I'd say Crow has the upper hand over Dewey slightly, but I would be very surprised if either are future starters at Miami.

-Dwyane Hoilett looks good physically and is getting a good amount of reps. He has added a lot of weight since enrolling. He still has the quicknes and speed that makes him special as a pass-rusher and by the amount of time he's been getting, he will be used in 3rd-and-long effectively.

-Malcolm Lewis is a natural, continues to push for immediate playing time

-Overall, I'm feeling very good about the WR unit. Dorsett is in for a big year, just from seeing the last couple days of practice. Scott is the most physical of the group and we know what we'll get from Hurns. Lockhart has made some acrobatic plays, but isn't as big as he's listed. The wild card here is Waters.

-Antonio Crawford is showing very good cover ability. Right now, I would say he's right behind Tracy and Hope as far as the freshmen corners go.

Nice. THX. Any word on how the safety play is going? Its easily one of the biggest question marks on D.

IF this proves to be correct, that's very disappointing. Fisch took something of a flyer on both of these kids, and it was a good quick test for us to see how well he could evaluate prospects that weren't no-brainers. Especially given how aggressively we pursued Crow and how early we took his commitment.

are we wearing pants above the knees and cutoff shirts exposing the belly?

Wouldn't throw in the towel just yet. I never expected much from either of them for this year. I'm sure you recall that Crow's numbers were unimpressive in high school although he seemed to have the physical attributes and toughness you'd like to have in a QB. Dewey seemed to have the goods from the neck up, but he needs to develop more physically. They'll have this entire year to improve. Let's see if they take some big steps towards the end of this season and going into the off season work out.

Bottom line with the two freshmen QBs is that Olsen will have the upper hand

Not sweating the 2 young QBs yet. I think in the end 1 of them will not make it here all 4(5) years. Assuming Thompson comes back next year, we just wouldn't need both of them.

Happy to hear Crawford is also playing well. We need the young CB's to step in and play big minutes this year.

Thx Pete for the info. I also would really like to know how the saftey position is looking especially with the new guys stepping up to fill the void. Also Jimmy Gaines, how well is he doing at LB right now! I heard from Buc and Denzel but not alot from Gaines.

Thanks Pete, you unibrow'd, pre-pubescent looking doughboy.

Much appreciated.

Gaines is still hurt, not sure when he's coming back. Paul has been playing in his spot.

With safeties, nothing in particular has really stood out. Rodgers dropped a pick yesterday but was in good position. Deon is getting a lot of burn as well as Rayshawn Jenkins. I personally like Highsmithh

Way too early to be passing down judgement on the future these QBs have.
