Priority targets on Defense. These are all +1 recruits

DT
  • Scott*
  • Breland*
  • Stone
  • Jones*
  • Lindsey
  • Jackson (Jayden)
  • Jackson (Kendal)
  • Franklin (D$ not as connected in this recruitment, we could be in good shape)

DE
  • Stewart (#1 overall on the board). Very similar to the Samson recruitment
  • Lightfoot* (Miami made strong move this weekend)
  • Rudolph
  • McCray
  • Jackson (Kendal)
  • Franklin (D$ not as connected in this recruitment, we could be in good shape)

LB
  • Cole (Miami made strong move this weekend)

CB (wide open, position D$ is most concerned about)
  • Romanas Frederique (one name to watch here, excellent flip candidate)

* D$ feels good about these today (things can change, this whole process is fluid)

Note: just cause there's not a * by a name doesn't mean we're not in good shape there. He just didn't highlight them but the context of the discussion was the overall recruiting is fluid and there's a lot of battles for each and every one of them.

Excellent questions about Canes fandom.

Thinking of Jacurri in 2024 running behind the likes of Francis, Samson, Cooper, Kinsler type linemen has me dreaming.

I was there for the G Tech game. Great point about that being our most productive game offensively. Yes, G Tech was bad last year, but their D was their brighter spot. Believe they had two LB’s who were Top 10 in tackles in ACC. Jacurri left them in the dust several times.

He still has to be developed by, man, there’s something there.

Losing DVD as a coach is going to hurt cb recruiting. Is it true addae rubs a lot of people the wrong way?

Considering how light the DE board is, gotta think we feel good about two of those three. Doesn’t necessarily mean we ultimately land them, but the staff must feel confident.
it's different from the past 2 cycles of how we've approached the DE position. 2022, which was late in the process for Mario, but we took Moss and Kelly, and then portal'd Mesidor, Moultrie and Agude

Last cycle we took, Bain, Wayne, and Collins. along with Malik who can play off the edge some.

Usually we're throwing numbers at the position, but this year it seems we're locked in on Stewart and Lightfoot.

I was surprised when Addae survived last offseason's staff purge considering what was said about him as a recruiter by insiders on the board for months.

It seemed we were aiming way higher at CB in last year's cycle. Brown and Stafford were great gets and we obviously fought like **** to land the top corner in the country in Cormani. We also tried but failed to flip Matthews from OSU, Jackson or Denson from UF, and Austin from LSU, all of whom were consensus 4*'s and three of whom were Top 125 overall players nationally.

Guys like Mack, Knight, and Frederique would *maybe* fit the bill as the CB3 or CB4 in a class, but all 3 possibly being takes should raise some eyebrows. It doesn't seem we're in the game for anyone close to Brown or Stafford's level right now. Some may be more optimistic than me about our chances of somehow flipping Robinson from UGA, but aside from him there's no smoke linking us with any other premier CB1.

Brown and Stafford, plus the portal additions all came because of Addae

It's a down year locally for DB's and that doesn't help. Seems like the top ones would rather play WR.

As mentioned by Dmoney. I'm more concerned with how they performed on the field. We didn't get the best out of Stevenson or Ivey.

D$ deposits a load of cash into the bank on the DL, about as good an update you can get. CIS fans "wtf is wrong with DB recruiting and why haven't we fired Addae yet"?

@DMoney huge appreciation. I think the 2005 to 2022 stretch has filled Canes fans with FUD about Miami's ability to close. Only way to unwind that trauma is for those verbals to start coming in and then the performance on the field in the Fall to be at least defensible.

Personally, when I hear we have our NIL in place to compete, I am 100% confident that THIS STAFF will get it done. But like the early Butch years, doubters are going to doubt until it all comes together.

D$ himself also talked about his concerns with CB recruiting and Addae in this very podcast, so it’s not like discussion from others agreeing with that sentiment is coming out of left field.

With how polarized this board tends to get between slurpers and mopes, it’ll be interesting if this class ends up being elite at DL but weak at other premium positions like QB (once again) and CB.

Most would acknowledge both the positives and negatives of the class if that’s what ends up happening, but the loudest voices representing the “f*** everything” side and the defend everything side will probably try to drown out any nuanced discussion.

Hopefully we clean house on the trail, kick *** this season, and everyone will be happy.

So Gaby thinks we have a great shot with Stewart than D$ does?

Why is he still here then…How has he managed to survived thus far…
Turning over an entire staff is hard af? We had to change out two coordinators, and get a WR coach while hitting the portal. It’s a ton of work

Would be consistent with last when we nailed it at OL, Edge but whiffed on WR and DT

Going 5-7 and getting rid of both coordinators after one year is just such an awful look when you’re trying to sell a kid on a long term plan

I think most fans want to be optimistic but especially DTs, it’s hard to go against decades of evidence that we will have a tough time
