Knighton is struggling because he's behind in the footwork and processing department running between the tackles. It's a big adjustment going from athletic HS back who likes bouncing to space vs refined and precise college runner. Some never learn the nuances of the position. There's a reason Frank Gore is/was still in the NFL while Anthony McFarland sucks.

Even if he was healthy I'd be surprised if Arroyo was ready for more than some designed plays to get him the ball in space. He's also quite raw from multiple standpoints.

Did you watch those Kinchens clips I posted @DMoney ?? Needless to say I strongly disagree about him becoming a starter.

I did. He definitely had a bad game but, as others pointed out, he is much more comfortable playing deep. I'm not as down on his speed as you are. He timed 4.6 as a sophomore which is relatively strong at that age and has run down some fast players. His IQ will allow him to play faster.

My downside comparison would be a guy like Mo Sikes (who started on the '02 team). He is much smarter than guys like Knowles and more fluid than Carter.

The Garcia hype is exciting yet scary....

Did we actually hit on a big time QB eval?

He was a lot faster prior to 2020. I think he put on too much bulk and it slowed him down. I'd like to see him trim back down to the 185 range. He's atrocious in run support regardless of what weight he is and he can't be trusted in man coverage, so his only path to the field is as a deep safety like you said. Ahmad Black would be a best-case scenario. You don't need a 30 BMI to be a deep safety.

Whether he has the coverage IQ fans say he does remains to be seen but he's definitely not an intelligent run defender. He doesn't read run schemes, takes horrible angles and puts in no effort. I saw it in the IMG game and several times in these highlights. He's a traffic cone out there.

Great stuff as usual. Really appreciate these short and compact pods.

@DMoney Thanks for the thoughts. Garcia seemingly played higher level competition in high school than TVD. You think that's the distinction between them at this point in terms of each's development?

TVD is playing well. The only reason I focused on Garcia is that he's making his move now after sitting out a week.

I would say Garcia is more fundamentally sound, but TVD is a better athlete. So their backgrounds bring different strengths.

You're that down on Kam huh? I haven't watched film on the kid or studied him, but you always have sound football related opinions. In your opinion will he contribute here?

I remember Ahmad Black being a good player for the gata. not NFL material, but a solid guy on their team.

Just to follow up on something @DMoney said, I posted during the Georgia / Cincy game everyone would be even more impressed with TS if they knew the actual weight he was playing at. People kept saying he was listed around 200 lol, but as I’ve said those roster numbers are bs. As D mentioned “he’s huge “. That’s why posted there’d been talk of him being used in a different role , not just an outside cb. He eventually turned that down and is dropping weight to be able to play at more realistic cb weight, and focus on one position.

I can say the kid walks around at a lot more than 200 pounds but has zero fat. He’s jacked and carries it naturally but he knows that playing outside with that weight is just too much. Tyrique at 200-210 is scary. A physical man cb that’ll bust a rb or te’s ***, just ask Don lol.

As for Tvd he’s played well but has been a little careless with int’s, mostly early on in camp. Sometimes he’ll stare guys down and force balls because his arm is so strong. He has the advantage over Jake in every physical trait but Jake might have a little more moxy and quicker with decisions. This will be a good battle going into fall.

Really excited to see tyrique ball out for us. He’s a freak show. First round corner type of athlete. Shame it’s a one year rental but it is what it is. Hopefully his dedication can run off

I know it's early, but are projections that Tyrique is a first round corner?
