OL Javion Cohen Reflects on the Team's Resilience and Preparation for Upcoming UNC Game
In today’s media availability, Miami Hurricanes offensive lineman Javion Cohen spoke about his team's recent setback, their determination, and their upcoming game against the Tarheels.
After a challenging loss last week, Cohen was candid about the need for the team to bounce back and move on quickly. "You get 24 hours to think about that game, and then you got to move on to the next week," he said. He acknowledged the commendable performance of Georgia Tech but was clear about the need to look forward. "We feel like we left a lot out there, but it's the next week... we're playing the University of North Carolina, and that's what we're focused on."
When asked about the strengths he's seen from North Carolina's defense in their film study, Cohen expressed his respect for their defensive front. "Myles Murphy and Rucker, those are two great guys who excel very well," he pointed out. The team's primary concern is figuring out how to execute against such a robust defense. Cohen expressed respect for UNC's defensive coordinator Coach Gene Chizik, mentioning that he is a well-respected figure in the sport.
Regarding the atmosphere and challenges of playing in a filled stadium in North Carolina, Cohen was optimistic. He shared that the coaches have been simulating the game environment during their practices. "We've been playing the speakers very loud... everybody has to be focused and on the same wavelength."
Addressing concerns about QB Tyler Van Dyke’s recent performance, Cohen was reassuring, saying, "He's wonderful. We're all focused on playing North Carolina."
Cohen also had high praise for teammate Matt McCoy, who has had the chance to play a few times this season. He expressed admiration for McCoy's development and commitment. "I've seen Matt McCoy blossom... take on the coaching and really push himself into a position and prepare himself like a starter," Cohen said, highlighting McCoy's progress and dedication to the team.
