Peter Ariz was at Canes practice this morning for media viewing and provided his thoughts on the CanesInSight YouTube channel (see below). I’ve summarized Peter’s comments below:
- WR JoJo Trader was wearing number zero. Shannon Dawson was really hands-on with him. They were working on screens today, and Dawson worked very close with Trader on his pre-snap alignment. Dawson was very passionate today with the receivers group as a whole, but spent a lot of time with Trader.
- CB Damari Brown is impressive physically. There's a good chance he plays a lot of nickel for Miami this season. During wrap-up drills, the thud from him sounds different. I think he's one of Miami's top two to three corners.
- DT Simeon Barrow is known for his quickness, but he has more size and power than expected. I think he’s a legit NFL prospect. Day 3 with a chance to move up. He looks more than 300 pounds.
- S Zaquan Patterson broke on an underneath route, met WR Ny Carr at the catch point and deflected a pass in seven-on-seven.
- I think LB Cam “Bobby” Pruitt is gonna play a lot this year and make an impact as a freshman. But it’s scary what he could be in a couple years. He’s still not developed. He has the body type to be a legit big-time NFL type prospect down the line. What makes him so intriguing is how fluid he is at that position. In today's day and age, you need guys who can run, hit, and cover, and he can do that.
- CB Dylan Day had a really nice rep in coverage on WR RayRay Joseph on a deep post. QB Judd Anderson threw a deep ball that was sky-high and right at edge of the end zone. It would have been a tough play. It wasn't a bad ball, but Dylan Day was all over it, and there was really no chance for that ball to be completed. Day was stride-for-stride with RayRay. His (21.63 200M) speed was on display.
- LB Chase Smith has the knee brace but looks like he’s ready to roll. He is one of the few Manny recruits that is still here and has excellent size.
