**The best player at today's event in my opinion was Monarch's Shawn Burgess-Becker. He has all the physical tools and produces like a 5-star talent should. He was doing it all today from the receiver spot: beating defenders deep, catching passes across the middle, winning jump balls. His versatility is what really struck me because it's not very often you see prospects his size that are able to do more than just go deep. He uses his body very well to position himself in traffic and catches the ball with his hands away from his body. The scary thing about him is that he did not play any receiver until this Spring, which shows he still has room to grow.
**Two Champagnat Catholic prospects really caught my eye. The first was safety Michael Johnson, who impresses me more and more each time I see him. The Louisville commit has great size (6'2", 190) with long arms and good range. He has wide shoulders and will continue to grow into his body the next few years. He will look like an NFL safety in two years. I think Miami is making a mistake by not offering him. The other CC prospect that jumped out at me was 2016 WR Darnell Solomon. The 6'2", 180-lb rising sophomore nicknamed "Megatron" will be a 15+ offer recruit by the end of his sophomore season. Him and Sam Bruce are in a class by themselves for the 2016 WR class.
**One of the more encouraging things I saw today was Booker T. Washington QB Treon Harris' size. You can tell he has been putting in major work in the weight room. If he decided to play corner in college, it would be a seamless transition from a size standpoint. There's a stigma with him that he doesn't have "elite speed", but the more I see him, the more I think people are sleeping on him as an athlete. He has run a 4.48 laser-timed 40 and as I mentioned the size is there as well.
**I was able to watch new commit Ryan Mayes at Al Golden camp last weekend and he was very good in one-on-ones. After seeing more of him today, I look at him more as a safety than a corner. Canes fans might not like this comparison, but he reminds me of Kacy Rodgers as a prospect. Mayes has a physical build that I feel would be better suited at safety. I'm not sure he has the foot speed to be a full-time corner at Miami.
**A kid that surprised me was 2015 Monarch CB Ronnie Hoggins. The only thing holding him back from being a big name right now is his size (5'9"), but I expect him to take off as more people see him play. He showed great ball skills and made the catch of the day with a one-hander in the back of the endzone while falling down. He has good hips and quickness as well.
**I was chatting with a father of a Central player, who told me that South Florida is making a very strong push with Trevor Darling and he would not be surprised to see him wind up there. This was interesting because it wasn't something I had previously heard, but the source was reliable and I wouldn't put it past former Central coach Telly Lockette to pull one of his former players. Just something to keep an eye on.
**Canes Basketball player DeAndre Burnett was in attendance to support his brother Dalvin Cook.
**Former Cane/Current Pittsburgh Steeler Demarcus Van Dyke was out there. Miami Northwestern Head Coach Stephen Field introduced Van Dyke to Michael Smith and the two shared a brief conversation.
