That was a monumental performance by James-and the O line in that game.
Portis’s 4th-quarter run on 3rd-and-13 has to be one of the most underrated plays in UM history.
Things falling apart against BC, Dorsey playing the worst game of his life (20-41 with 4 pix, and should have been 6 pix), up 12-7 with 5 minutes left, facing a 3rd-and-13 from our own 10. We can’t trust KD in that situation, so Chud makes the safe call with a straight handoff to CP, who busts it loose for 15 yds. Game saver.
Without that, BC gets the ball at mid-field with 5 minutes left, instead of at their own 30 at 2:09.
That play saved that game, and thus our perfect ’01 season, every bit as much as the Sweeney/Reed play.
