2022 Miami Northwestern (FL) WR Jalen Rogers was one of the top performers out at Rivals Miami last weekend, shining against some of the top talent in the Southeastern region.
“I performed great. I went 12 for 12 on reps [in 1-on-1’s], I went a lot of times. I did a great job,” Rogers said.
Over the next few months, the 5’11” 155-pound prospect is hoping to boost his profile even higher. Shortly after last weekend’s event, Rogers landed an offer from Tulane, while he previously held bids from Syracuse and Tennessee State.
“Definitely the goal is to get more attention,” Rogers said. “I also communicate with Louisville, Illinois, Utah. I’m just going to wait and see how things go after spring (before any decisions).”
While the Miami Northwestern star has not yet heard from the local Miami Hurricanes, Rogers admits that he would love to build a relationship with the UM staff.
“I love them, that’s the hometown,” Rogers said of UM. “My cousin Mark Walton played over there. I can go break records over there, I know I can.”
Even though he hasn’t established lines of communication with Miami yet, Rogers has already made a visit to UM, which came during a junior day event on campus that he attended with some teammates back in January of 2020.
“Overall, I like the facilities, I like the scenery. It’s a good school,” Rogers said of UM.
Where would the Hurricanes fit into his recruitment if Rogers did land an offer from UM?
“That would be amazing, I would commit to be honest with you. Like I said, that’s the hometown,” Rogers said.
While he waits to see if he can land more FBS offers going forward, when it does come time to make his decision, Rogers already has a good idea of what he will be looking for in a program.
“First is education, like the classes I want to major in, which is engineering,” Rogers said. “And mainly on the field, I’ll be looking at the passing situation. Is it a passing school? Because I’m a receiver, so I like to get the ball in my hands as many chances as I can get. Especially as a freshman, I want to go and play, do what I got to do to go play as a freshman.”
Going into his final year of high school, Rogers is laser-focused on improving his game, staying healthy, and making 2021 something to be seen.
“My junior season, I would say I did okay,” Rogers said. “My first game, I had a little minor injury setback. My senior year, I’m coming, 100% for sure. I’m mainly working on gaining size. My speed is my main ability, nobody can match my speed. That’s just how it is.”
