We are 100% in rebuild mode. This is the worst season in program history.
Couldn’t agree more. 2 years is a LONG time ago. This thing needs to be rebuilt from the bottom up. Hard to comprehend that there will likely be 10 or more guys from the portal coming in over the next few months.

We are 100% in rebuild mode. This is the worst season in program history.
If you mean that we are changing cultures then yes, but 10 years of success isn't destroyed by 2 years of failure. Miami is still a place where we can win and people know it.

“John Lucas is the Houston community. He is Mr. Houston basketball," former Rocketsplay-by-play announcer Bill Worrell told Chron before the John Lucas Foundation Golf Classic. "What he does for the city of Houston, people just have no idea. Anything that John Lucas calls me about, I’m going to be there."

Worrell isn't alone in his sentiment. Former Rockets guard—and 1994 Finals hero—Vernon Maxwell referred to Lucas as "the Godfather" of Houston hoops. Fellow former Houston guard Steve Francis noted the slate of former players on hand were "products of some advice [Lucas] gave us." Lucas, the No. 1 pick in the 1976 NBA draft, was an effective player in the 1970s and 1980s, then a trusted assistant, mentor and friend for hundreds of players league-wide (not a hyperbole) in subsequent decades.

Affection for Lucas league-wide was evident Monday, with Rockets players from five different decades joined by former and current coaches (Rudy Tomjanovich and Kelvin Sampson), former Texas Longhorns stars (Vince Young and D.J. Augustin) and other ex-NBA players (Nick Van Exel, George Gervin and James Posey. Listen to Lucas's contemporaries and mentees, and Monday's showing is no surprise.

"John and I go way back from when he was my personal rookie on the Rockets," Calvin Murphy, former Rockets star and current Space City Home Network analyst said. "He’s one of those kind individuals, very low-key, but a tremendous friend.

"John is real. John has always been there for everybody else."

Among other things, there is an annual TX camp with his namesake: John Lucas' Be Elite Invitational

“Type it in, Googles your friend bruh”

So many pros singing the praises of Lucas I had to cut it short — too much sunshine.

I guess the guy who invited 16 year old Kobe Bryant to hoop with the 76ers isn’t a legend.

You're so desperate to show off your Google skills that you keep regurgitating TERRIBLE examples. Facts.

"Who cares if it's ten years at the same place or ten years elsewhere"? Surely, you can't be this stupid. Please, tell me you are not so clueless as to ask such a dumb question with such an obvious answer.

I do think it's funny that you are calling John Lucas a coaching "legend". In what fairy tale book? He is a career .400 coach who lasted 2 years at San Antonio, 2 years at Philly (fired), and 2 years at Cleveland (fired). In his "two good years" at San Antonio, he lost in the 2nd round of the playoffs and the first round of the playoffs.

"Legend".

Good lord, the insane fan fiction that you read on CIS...

By hiring Lucas, Spur owner Red McCombs realized he would be opening himself to criticism. First of all, Lucas, who retired as a player just before the 1990-91 season, had no NBA coaching experience….

But none of the negatives mattered to McCombs, who himself has been a recovering alcoholic since Nov. 12, 1977. Moreover, McCombs knew firsthand that Lucas had a special way with people and an uncanny ability to cut straight to the heart of an athlete, because he had witnessed the rehabilitation magic Lucas worked with former NBA All-Star George (the Iceman) Gervin, the most celebrated player in Spur history.

"John won't just be a good coach, he'll be a great one," says the Golden State Warriors' Don Nelson, who coached Lucas on the Milwaukee Bucks in 1987. "He relates to players as well or better than anybody I've been around. He coaches like a point guard. He knows exactly what should and shouldn't be asked of players."

“The teams were about GETTING THE FIRST PICK IN THE DRAFT [tanking]….I was Nike’s THIRD basketball player”

When the new owner overruled Pop:

I'm deeply disappointed that he chose not to continue with the Spurs because I felt he was the right coach for the Spurs," Popovich said.

Don Nelson and Gregg Popovich, along with Pat Riley, are the only NBA coaches to win coach of the year 3 times.

I'm interested in seeing Cleveland's draft grade. He may be the biggest recruit Lucas signs this season. I'd begin with him, and Pack...

Time to get excited about the Men's Basketball team again.
This man left the eventual National Championship team early to start building his program at Miami.
That's First Class commitment.
