2026 4-star DB Jaelen “Seatbelt” Waters has announced his commitment to the University of Miami Friday night on X

“It’s been a long process but I know where I’m supposed to be.”

The 6-foot-2, 170-pounder from Seffner, FL is considered one of the top cornerbacks in the state as well as the country. (No.15 CB Nationally, No. 4 CB in FL). He applied his trade at Armwood where he was credited with 20 tackles and two interceptions his Junior year.

Waters decommitted from Florida last month just after secondary coach/main recruiter Will Harris left the Gators to come to Miami. The pair have a close relationship and many immediately flipped the crystal ball to Miami when the news broke.

He had praise for Miami’s new defensive backs coach Zac Etheridge after they met on campus last month.
“Coach Etheridge made a great impression. We went through film and what he could do with me as a player. He is a real good coach,” said Waters.

At Armwood, Waters was a former teammate of Miami’s early Enrollees RB Girard Pringle and LB Kellen Wiley Jr., recently reposting Pringle’s drills from spring practice.

Waters’ 7v7 coach Jose Duasso spoke to CanesInsight last month.

“Has good football IQ … physical and long. If he isn’t a 5-star by the end of the cycle I would be shocked,” said coach Duasso.

His length and physicality are some of the best in the class, allowing him to live up to the “seatbelt” name.
Cristobal & co. continue to be committed to revamping the secondary room, bringing in 9 new transfers and freshmen for the 2025 season.

Waters becomes the fifth commit for Miami in the 2026 class and the second this week joining recently committed 4-star OT Ben Congdon. 4-stars QB Dereon Coleman, Jordan Campbell, and Camdin Portis remain committed as Miami continues to bolster their upcoming recruiting class.
