The University of Miami baseball team fell to the Stetson Hatters, 11-2, Wednesday evening at Mark Light Field. Miami’s five errors, three of them coming in the fourth inning, led to the midweek defeat.

Justin Solimine (2–0) earned the win with three shutout innings in his start for Stetson (14-12, 4-2 ASUN). Five relievers followed him to limit the Hurricanes (14–12, 1-5 ACC) to just two runs on eight hits.

Stetson capitalized on a rough start from Miami right-hander Reese Lumpkin (2–1), who allowed six runs, five of them being earned, in just three innings.

Miami’s seventh midweek game of the season started with two scoreless frames, but in the top of the third, the visiting Stetson squad struck first while taking full advantage of Miami’s errors in the field.

Stetson’s Isaiah Barkett began the plethora of scoring with an RBI double down the right field line, scoring Anthony Gonzalez. Juan De La Cruz reached home on a throwing error to put the Hatters up 2-0.

Three errors committed by the Hurricanes, paired with RBI singles from Juan De La Cruz and Lorenzo Meola in the fourth inning, would blow the game wide open for the Hatters as Stetson took a commanding 8-0 lead.

Miami’s only offense came from Derek Williams’ solo home run in the seventh and an RBI single by Bobby Marsh in the fifth.

With Stetson adding one insurance run in the fifth and two more in the seventh, the Miami bats were not able to return from their five errors in the field.

Up next for the Hurricanes is a three-game conference series in Chapel Hill against No. 21 North Carolina. Game one is scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m. and will be broadcast on ACCNX.

It’s time to pull the plug on JD! Again, he should’ve never been hired in the first place, but this is the University of Miami, and we make a habit of making these kind of hires. But like we all knew, the gamble didn’t pay off and it’s time to pull the plug on this guy because he has no business being the head coach here. Until then, I’m done with this team.

Honest question....How long do you think JD really gets?

Is Mark Light full?

If so then they will keep JD. If he finishes close to .500 he can last forever if revenue comes in. The Spanish name sells down there (didn’t mean that negatively) and hey no NCAA drama.

Stetson 14-12…not like they are even incredible mid level major.

I know the players are subpar for the most part.

But are we going to talk about the equipment provider (Marucci) turning out metal fungo bats the last two cycles?

You can’t have subpar players swinging subpar equipment in a sport that really depends on having at least respectable equipment.

I truly believe he’s done after this season. Think about it, this season is on pace to be worse than last season and that was the worst season in what like over 50 years. SMH he’s done after this season.
As I’ve mentioned before last years team is better than this team we had some key injuries last year. this team is full of old portal guys that suck. now JD has to go back into the portal and try to convince some more guys to come to a team that sucks and a head coach that sucks.

Oregon, Georgia, LSU and Oklahoma are all listed as Marucci partners and all top 10 in D1 baseball rankings.

Cuvet's may have been the worst individual performance I've seen from a Hurricane on that field.
