Suspensions

DT Gerald Willis – Serving a one-game suspension for something that occurred last season, according to multiple sources. He should be back next week.

WR Sam Bruce – Serving his suspension to start the season for the picture of him with a gun that surfaced online after he had signed with Miami. He will have a role in the return game this season.

Injuries

RB Trayone Gray (Torn ACL) – Out for year.

WR Lawrence Cager (Torn ACL) – Out for year.

DE Trent Harris (hand) – Harris has a fractured hand, but could play with a heavy wrap. He is a starter after AQM’s dismissal.

LB Darrion Owens (knee) – After a suffering a complicated knee injury just about a year ago, Owens has still not been participating in the full contact portions of practice. Miami might see him back near the middle-to-late part of the season.

DT Anthony Moten (Shoulder) – Moten has been dealing with a bum shoulder the last few days and has worked on the stationery bike during practice. It is unlikely that he plays this week.

DE Tyreic Martin (knee) – The freshman has been out for a few weeks on the stationery bike during practice with a left knee sprain. He is a redshirt candidate.

DE Scott Patchan (knee) – Still not fully recovered from an injury he suffered during the spring. He’s out for at least a few more weeks.

FAMU Notes

**FAMU Head Coach Alex Wood was the running backs coach at the University of Miami from 1989-1993 under Dennis Erickson, and won two championships while on the Hurricanes staff.

**Florida A&M’s offensive line coach is Edwin Pata – brother of the late Bryan Pata. This is his third year holding the position with the Rattlers program.

**FAMU’s roster is full of guys from Dade and Broward county, as you would expect. Here are some of the notables:

**On the interior of the offensive line, Belen Jesuit’s Keonte Cash is a three-year starter for the Rattlers. He was a star wrestler in high school and has carved out a very nice career for himself.

**FAMU safety #28 Terry Jefferson was a ball hawk for Booker T. Washington on the same legendary teams as Canes Chad Thomas and Demetrius Jackson.

**The Rattlers’ backup QB is former Flanagan High School gunslinger Ryan “Sunshine” Stanley, who led the Dirty Birdz to a state title in 2014.

Hoping we get a healthy dose of sunshine

**** man, I wasn't aware that Cager got injured. ****... At least I'm happy that some players are serving their suspensions on a gimme game.

Darrion Owens recovery seem awfully long. If it's an ACL he should be fully recovered by now. Typically is about 8-10 months

Not a Dan E quality write up but I guess I'll take it...

I wouldn't say fully recovered but he definitely should be full contact by now... Did he have a setback? What was his injury exactly, was it only a little or did he have more damage? That makes a big difference, maybe he comes back productive but staff seems much higher on other guys.. He might get lost in shuffle

Hope its a dominating performance by the canes today in which the reserves can have playing time.

Just from eyeballing his leg in practice I'd opine that he's a ways off from being ready...

I hear the woodshed is ready

**** the DL has had some major attrition with injuries and of course the dismissal.

I remember wanting Sunshine here, but I guess if he still the backup at famu, then I guess my Qb eval skills just arent very good.

.

Martin is going to get hurt a lot worse riding a bike made out of paper.

So you think all knee injuries involving the ACL are exactly the same with the same recovery times?

Even if you don't know the first thing about medicine, or knee injuries, experience tells you that they vary widely in time to full recovery.

This. From what I recall, there were other issues than just the acl.

The more you know....
